Bill looks down his microscope and the next shot shows the microscope view of what appears to be a virus infecting a cell. However, the 'virus' is far too big, about a tenth of the length of the cell. Viruses are generally tiny compared to cells. Moreover, he is using an optical (light) microscope, which cannot resolve something as small as a virus. He would need an electron microscope and viruses would be killed in the process of preparing the samples for viewing.
