- Marie is revealed to have attempted suicide with a pair of nail scissors. This is discussed extensively during two separate monologues.
- A scene towards the end of the film where Marie threatens her life in front of Malcolm with a sharp kitchen knife. Incredibly intense and disturbing. This is later revealed to be an "improvisation" for Malcolm in response to him claiming she needed to work much harder.
