TV Review: ‘Cobra Kai’ on YouTube Red

If the Broadway musical “Wicked” has taught us anything, it’s that even villains have sympathetic backstories.

This is certainly the case with the new YouTube Red dramedy “Cobra Kai.” A thoughtfully modern “Karate Kid” sequel, the streaming series — which premieres Wednesday — catches up with blond bad boy Johnny (William Zabka) and his good-guy nemesis Daniel (Ralph Macchio), 34 years after their fateful fight on the mat.

As viewers will quickly discover, life hasn’t been kind to Johnny since his loss. He’s a handyman with a drinking problem and an estranged teenage son named Robby, whom he barely knows.

Jumanji 3 Just Got a 2019 Release Date

Jumanji 3 Just Got a 2019 Release Date
Jumanji 3, a sequel to last year's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, has been announced by Sony Pictures with a Christmas-time 2019 release date.

One of the most surprisingly entertaining movies of last year was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which ended up being a fun and heartwarming sequel / soft reboot to the original Jumanji from 1995. Rather than being a board game like the original, the new Jumanji took the form of a 90s video game, which added a clever new twist to the movie. Welcome to the Jungle certainly managed to stand out from the original, making itself into its own movie rather than serving as a rehash to the Robin Williams-led classic.

The announcement of a sequel doesn't come as too big of a surprise, considering the massive success Welcome to the Jungle had. The Jumanji sequel earned itself over $950 million globally, which was over triple the box office success of the first Jumanji.

American Idol Recap: Top 14 Revealed! Are Your Favorite Singers Going Live?

American Idol Recap: Top 14 Revealed! Are Your Favorite Singers Going Live?
As someone who [A] willingly watched Glee until the bitter end, and has seen Wicked enough times that I’ve started wondering what the Wicked Witch’s talking-goat teacher does after hours, I was embarrassingly excited for Monday’s American Idol.

Sure, I was curious to find out which singers would snag the final seven open spots in this season’s Top 14 — but not nearly as curious as I was to see just how thoroughly Ada Vox would nail “Defying Gravity” alongside Rachel Berry herself, Lea Michele. Honestly, it’s the kind of once-in-a-blue-moon event that gay prophets have been documenting

Come to "Show Business: The Road to Broadway" this Sunday!

by Nathaniel R

Hello all. A week or so ago I moderated a screening of Mean Girls (2004) for Show-Score's new Stage and Screen series with two members of the new stage musical's team (The Broadway version of Tina Fey's classic officially opens this Sunday).

I'm doing another Q&A so come! This Sunday at 1:00 Pm I'll be speaking with director/producer Dori Berinstein about her documentary Show Business: The Road to Broadway (2007) which follows four musicals during the seminal 2003/2004 Broadway season: the blockbuster Wicked, the little scrappy show that could (and did) Avenue Q, Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori's brilliant Caroline or Change, and the troubled Boy George musical Taboo.  I saw all the big shows that year (a rare occurrence) and loved all four of the musicals this doc follows so that season remains special to my heart.

The movie has awesome rehearsal and backstage footage
