Storyline

In New York City, Thom is broke and jobless, illegally working as a taxi driver just to make some quick cash to try and pay his rent. Claire is a successful business-woman, but personally she's in shambles trying to recover from a bump in her marriage and then comes the phone call that her distant father is in the hospital. Not knowing what to do, Claire hops in Thom's cab and orders him to just drive. And so he does. The duo find themselves in Pennsylvania and make the rash decision to drive across the country. On the road to California, there are many detours, as the obstacles and secrets force them to learn about themselves and each other. Written by napierslogs

Goofs

At approximately 12 minutes into the movie, they travel through a tunnel into New Jersey. A discussion begins where Thom asks Claire where she wants to go. During the argument, Thom references a fare difference in Newark and he cannot drive out of New Brunswick. They show an I-70 sign, then back to Thom's facial reaction during the scene. I-70 is not close to the area they would have been driving. See more »

Thom: Actually, sir, if you could just take a look now, I'd really appreciate it. There's this issue with my landlord. He's kind of on my back. So if you could just, please - please - thank you.

Beautiful, non-formulaic romantic comedy
14 October 2011 | by natalie-leveckSee all my reviews

I enjoyed watching this movie at the Chicago Film Festival with a lively, responsive crowd. It's a character-driven story featuring two unique individuals, against a backdrop of our beautiful, expansive country. As the journey progresses through big cities, desolate deserts and incredible canyons, the characters grow in their own personal journeys, confronting head on the reality of their life's decisions. For Claire, it's a marriage that is falling apart and a strained relationship with a father who just had a heart attack. For Thom, it's going broke pursuing a career he loves, and lying to his family about it out of shame and embarrassment. As the characters drive across the country together, they eventually reach two destinations -- California and the personal realizations that they need to change the patterns of their lives in pursuit of something more meaningful.
