Drew Goddard plans to start working on X-Force after the release of Bad Times at the El Royale

Despite the impending acquisition of 20th Century Fox’s film and TV assets, the studio is hoping to squeeze through one or two more superhero movies before the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four find themselves back at Marvel Studios (assuming Comcast doesn’t hijack the deal).

One such project is X-Force, which is set to reunite Deadpool 2 co-stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino), with Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) directing.

Previous reports have said that X-Force will begin filming in October, but it looks like things may have to wait a little longer, as Goddard has revealed to CinemaBlend that he’ll not be turning his attention to the X-Men spinoff until after the release of his latest film Bad Times at the El Royale.

“I’ve learned I’m very much a one-movie-at-a-time kind of guy, and they all know,

‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer: Chris Hemsworth Checks Into Jon Hamm’s Ominous Hotel

‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer: Chris Hemsworth Checks Into Jon Hamm’s Ominous Hotel
The first trailer for “Bad Times at the El Royale” has arrived, uniting a star-studded cast with plenty of murder, secrets, and spying.

The clip for the crime thriller sets the scene at the El Royale, a rundown hotel on the border of California and Nevada, where guests can choose a room in either state. Immediately, there’s a sense of danger, when the bellhop (played by Lewis Pullman) warns a priest (Jeff Bridges) looking to stay the night that “this is not a place for a priest, Father. You shouldn’t be here.”

Soon, the happy-go-lucky tone surrounding the El Royale dissolves into mayhem, with a murder, a robbery, a hostage situation and the hotel manager (Jon Hamm) spying on guests through one-way glass. At the end of the trailer, Bridge’s character, held at gunpoint, confesses “I’m not really a priest.”

The film, which also stars Chris Hemsworth,

Bad Times at the El Royale Trailer Has One Messed Up Hotel

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for the upcoming thriller Bad Times at the El Royale, arriving in theaters this fall. This film marks the second directorial effort from Drew Goddard, who made his directing debut with the 2012 cult classic The Cabin in the Woods, and this follow-up looks like it very well could have the same kind of cult following that The Cabin in the Woods did. Not only that, but this period piece thriller boasts what could be one of the most impressive ensemble casts of the year.

Bad Times at the El Royale centers on seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, who meet at Lake Tahoe's El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption... before everything goes to hell. One of the most intriguing aspects of the El Royale is that,

‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer Marks the Return of ‘The Cabin in the Woods’ Director Drew Goddard

Six years after surprising audiences with his twisty genre treat The Cabin in the Woods (or much longer, if you count the film’s delay), Drew Goddard is finally back in the director’s chair. 20th Century Fox has just released the first trailer for Bad Times at the El Royale – the latest stylish thriller from writer/director Drew Goddard. Taking place over the course of one night, Bad Times follows the stories of seven strangers who fatefully meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale hotel. As new and astonishing secrets increasingly resurface, each stranger will get a “last shot at redemption.”

The trailer opens with an eccentric style, showcasing the multifarious charisma of the strong cast of strangers, but before we know it, the tone takes a dark turn – establishing the suspense and the bizarre uncertainty that we come to except from Goddard (whose aptitude is on display with

‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer: Shirtless Chris Hemsworth Has Never Seemed So Sinister…

‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer: Shirtless Chris Hemsworth Has Never Seemed So Sinister…
After making a splashy directorial debut with the subversive horror film The Cabin in the Woods, not much had been heard from Drew Goddard. The longtime Joss Whedon collaborator dabbled in TV (Daredevil), and wrote some Oscar-nominated screenplays (The Martian), but he didn’t yet give fans what they wanted: his second feature film. Now, six years later, […]

‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer: Drew Goddard’s ‘The Martian’ Follow-Up Is An Eerie Ensemble Film Set in 1969

‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer: Drew Goddard’s ‘The Martian’ Follow-Up Is An Eerie Ensemble Film Set in 1969
Celebrate, “Mad Men” fans: three long years after wrapping the series, Jon Hamm is back in ’60s threads in the first “Bad Times at the El Royale” trailer. Instead of pitching multimillion-dollar ad campaigns, here he’s peddling vacuums. Hamm’s salesman joins Dakota Johnson’s felon, Chris Hemsworth’s cult leader, and Jeff Bridges’ priest-who-might-not-actually-be-a-priest as unlucky hotel guests just hoping to reach check-out time alive.

Following 2012’s “The Cabin in the Woods” — also starring Hemsworth, written with his former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” boss Joss Whedon — “Bad Times” is Drew Goddard’s second feature as a director. An Oscar-nominated screenwriter (“The Martian”) who also penned “Cloverfield” and “World War Z,” Goddard will next write and direct the 20th Century Fox tentpole “X-Force.” On “Bad Times,” Goddard produced with Jeremy Latcham, a veteran of the “Iron Man” and “Avengers” franchises.

Overlooking Lake Tahoe, the fictional El Royale straddles the Nevada/California border.

Fox still moving ahead with X-Force as Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz confirmed to star

Last week a rumour surfaced online claiming that 20th Century Fox had decided that next year’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix would be its final Marvel movie before the studio’s acquisition by Disney, which seemingly meant the end for several planned projects.

Well, it turns out that may not be the case after all, as That Hashtag Show is reporting that Fox still intends on moving ahead with the Deadpool 2 spinoff X-Force, and that Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino) are now all confirmed to reprise their roles.

As yet, there’s no word as to whether the aforementioned trio will be joined by their Deadpool 2 costars and X-Force teammates Terry Crews, Lewis Tan and Bill Skarsgard. Presumably there’ll be a place for them, if they survive the Deadpool sequel of course…

Original X-Force Director Jeff Wadlow Explains Why His Film Never Happened

Regardless of how family-friendly your next trip to the local multiplex needs to be, Marvel has got you covered. By the end of next month, the House of Ideas will have successfully introduced three variants of a superhero supergroup to the big screen – the Avengers (2012), the Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and X-Force (2018). Each with a varying degree of family-friendly-ness, the latter and least of which is brought to you courtesy of Ryan Reynolds’ foul-mouthed mutant, Deadpool.

That’s right, the Merc with a Mouth is slated to return with his particular brand of childish vulgarity and patently meta dialogue next month, and he’s bringing some friends along for the ride. Having gotten the regenerative superhuman in deep doo-doo with the Princess of Themyscira, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), for stealing her look recently, the troublemaking X-Force is scheduled to impart the mayhem on May 18th. As it turns out, though,

[SXSW Review] ‘Blood Fest’ Isn’t Nearly as Clever as It Thinks It Is
Blood Fest aims to be a self-aware meta-horror comedy in the vein of Scream or The Cabin in the Woods, but where those films succeeded in their attempts to lampoon the genre, Blood Fest fails, making for a rather negative viewing experience that just doesn’t know when to quit. A product of YouTube juggernaut Rooster Teeth, Blood Fest sees Dax (Robbie Kay, Once Upon a […]

Canon Of Film: ‘Dark City’ (Directors Cut)

In this edition of Canon Of Film, we look at the director’s cut of Alex Proyas’ underated gothic noir, ‘Dark City‘. For the story behind the genesis of the Canon, you can click here.

Dark City: Director’S Cut (1998)

Director: Alex Proyas

Screenwriter: Alex Proyas and Lem Dobbs and David S. Goyer

At some point, it went from cool to cliche to say that you were a fan of ‘Dark City‘. I think it’s well-respected and well-known enough now, but at one point in time, even people who thought they really knew sci-fi and all the famous archetypal elements and the films that created them like Fritz Lang’s ‘Metropolis‘ or Kubrick’s, ‘2001: A Space Odyssey‘ or Ridley Scott’s ‘Blade Runner‘, a lot of those fans didn’t catch on to Alex Proyas’s ‘Dark City‘ ’til way later. It was practically ignored by the general
