Storyline

Five teenagers head off for a weekend at a secluded cabin in the woods. They arrive to find they are quite isolated with no means of communicating with the outside world. When the cellar door flings itself open, they of course go down to investigate. They find an odd assortment of relics and curios, but when one of the women, Dana, reads from a book, she awakens a family of deadly zombie killers. However, there's far more going on than meets the eye. Written by garykmcd

Goofs

When Curt is on his motorcycle there is a close-up camera shot of him and his hands. The motorcycle he is riding is equipped with a twist throttle and he is clearly revving the engine using his right hand, which would be correct. However, later in the shot he is shown revving the throttle with his left hand, which would be the hand the clutch is operated with. See more »

Quotes

[first lines]
Hadley: It's... hormonal. Yeah, I don't... usually fall back on, you know, it's-it's women's issues, but...
Sitterson: But child-proofed how? Gates and stuff?
Hadley: Dude, she did the drawers. We don't even know if this whole fertility thing's gonna work. She screwed in these little jobbies where you can't even open the drawers.
Sitterson: At all?
Hadley: No. They open, you know, like an inch, then you gotta dig your finger in. I mean, it's a nightmare.
Sitterson: I guess sooner or later...
Hadley: Yeah, well, a *lot* later. She did the *upper* ...

User Reviews

Deconstruction and subversion of horror tropes.
29 October 2019 | by Java_JoeSee all my reviews

But I would expect no less from the mind of Joss Wheadon, the man that gave us "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". This is a movie that, like "Scream" did in the 90's, deconstructs horror movies in an entertaining and rather original way.

Tell me if you've heard this story before. Five teens head out to a secluded cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun, partying and sex. But they're not alone and soon find themselves fighting for their lives as a supernatural force kills them one by one.

Of course this has been done before. Movies like "The Evil Dead" immediately spring to mind. But what makes this movie such a pleasure to watch is that we get to see behind the curtain as it were and see what leads up to the whole situation.

To say more about the machinations that go on behind the scenes would be giving away too much of the plot. Suffice it to say it's a very satisfying explanation as to why we always see the same kinds of horrors going on in our movies.

Recommended for fans of horror, comedy and those that like their movies to be a little different.
