Storyline
Ed Lane, the crack sniper of a Canadian Metropolitan police force's Strategic Response Unit (SWAT), is a workaholic, who prefers retirement parties to family events, such as teenage son Clark's birthday concert performance. Today, he has to aim at Goran Tomasic, whose wife Marta taunted him till he killed her and went berserk, taking a bystander hostage yo escape arrest. This episode was based on a real life event that occurred in Toronto on August 25, 2004. On that day, after a man attempted to murder his estranged wife in an underground mall, he then took a hostage at gun point outside Union Station at the height of rush hour. Similar to the events in this episode, the man pointed his gun several times at the Emergency Task Force hostage negotiator who finally gave the order to another ETF agent who took the kill shot. I used to think that all what the police should do is maintain stability of the society.But after watching this series ,I have changed my mind.
When I first heard about Flashpoint ,I just think it would like to be a traditional commercial TV series which is full of violence or professional tactics just like the game(though there is no connection between them.but the game define the word 'Flashpoint' someway in my mind),and only tells the stories in SRU's shoes.And then I found I'm totally wrong.I got the new definition of 'flashpoint' & 'police '.
Every episode shocked me and I cannot hold back my tears.Not only the police,but also the cleaner,the doctor,the patient ,the psychologist and even the robber are all common people with real emotion and stories. SRU is not a country's force simply.The real character of it is an institution which uphold the social justice and the law and they serve the civilians ,not the rulers or the Special Interest Groups.
Cops are also fathers,mothers,sons and daughters.But sadly ,in my country,they are the government's and the dictators' force to put down our reasonable demonstrations and they serve interests and money merely.
Good TV series!Excellent!
