Lieutenant Jones would go on to be transferred to the 508th, and a year later to the 970th C.I.C. attachment as a field commander. He was injured in a jeep wreck in Heidelberg Germany and although he recovered from the wreck, he would later die from complications due to surgery. He died on July 21, 1947 at the age of 23.
In a reflection of the situation his character faces, Colin Hanks was met with some indifference by the existing cast members who suspected that nepotism got him the role. (His father, Tom Hanks, was one of the producers on the series.) The younger Hanks soon won the cast round with his dedication to his performance.
