Dev, a man of Indian extraction is so immersed in his Hollywood gossip magazine that he fails to realize he has wandered outside Toronto's downtown core into Little India, and he looks around as if he's landed on another planet. A storm forces Dev into an Indian convenience store, where he immediately makes for the magazine rack and takes comfort in the pages of a Western periodical. This activity does not sit well with the shopkeeper and the staff breaks into a Bollywood-style song and dance number warning against reading magazines in the store. The display of South Asian culture leaves Dev bemused, and he proceeds to commit a further error as he attempts to purchase a chocolate bar with a $20 bill. A fresh twist on Boy meets Girl, with lots of humor, entertainment and originality packed into a short.

I saw Coxwell and Gerrard on a transpacific flight - well worth seeing! A fresh twist on Boy meets Girl.

The script is original with some quirky humor such as the "smaller bills, please" song - can;t remember the exact wording. A really nice touch - taking an everyday occurrence that is universal and has elements of anxiety, public humiliation, planning and manipulation, and creating a song about it.

The cast is fine - beautiful girl and middling suitor - with good support cast. Very good execution of the expected elements, including the Big Dance Finale showing technical flourishes and choreographing that are beyond the budget.

A lot of entertainment packed into a 15 minute short, and it looks a lot bigger than the reported $30K budget. And I just saw Coxwell and Gerrard won an award in Houston. What's next from Stephen Lategan?
