Trivia

(at around 35 mins) Before Detective James Turner meets L in person, he interacts with him first on a computer screen interface which is simply the letter L. This is an homage to the anime where L as a character is not physically seen in person for several episodes and until then, is only seen as a disembodied voice on a computer screen interface with just the letter L. Goofs

(at around 1h 19 mins) Near the end of the film as Light Turner is running towards the Seattle Great Wheel (or Ferris Wheel as they call it) there are city lights and skyscrapers across the water. The Seattle Great Wheel sits on a pier. From the angle of the shot the camera would be facing out into Puget Sound - and away from the Seattle skyline. See more »

Quotes

Light Turner: Okay, relax, Light. You're asleep. You're asleep and you're... dreaming of some 8-foot tall demon-looking motherfucker.
Ryuk: Ohhh, yes! A dream! I like that. Dreams are places you can have fun, right? It's all in your mind, so why not enjoy it?

As a fan of the original Death Note anime I am very disappointed in this film. It was poorly acted, horribly paced, and the drama felt more edgy than composed. The characters personalities were completely changed to the point where I didn't see why they even bothered maintaining the original names and The events of the story were changed so drastically I forgot that I was watching Death Note. In the original anime both L and Light were very calm and rational in how they made each decision, creating a suspenseful psychological drama, but in the film both of them do things that were very out of character and essentially made no sense. Overall this felt very rushed and poorly directed, I wouldn't be surprised if the director had never even heard of the original anime before doing this film.
