Well, that escalated quickly.
'May I Have This Seat? (2020)' is a short film that focuses on a tense situation that quickly spirals out of control when a young pregnant woman asks a man to give up his seat on a bus. It's a decidedly nuanced affair that sees its characters behave in rounded, relatively realistic ways. The core players, surrounded by a sea of mobile-phone surveillance, feel like they're using their past experiences to aid in making their decisions; this is an effect that's very hard to achieve and can only come from a highly competent screenplay. The story itself is thematically interesting and escalates in often unexpected ways. It has a lot to say but it isn't one-note. It feels like the sort of thing that could happen right in front of you. 7/10

in the city bus
The story is simple and admirable crafted. A pregnand woman, in a full bus, asks a man to give up his seat. He refuses, prepairing his son for an exam. The conflict between lady and man becomes more and more intense, against his obvious good intentions.
A friend of woman solves, for moment, the situation.
But not at whole.
The true characters of this admirable crafted short film are ...the iphones. The people filming the scenes of conflict, not intervening for aplanate the tension , to give the seat to lady or to support the man.
And this is one of sources of precious virtues of film - its impressive realism. You know the situation, mayto too well. You know the characters. You know the reaction of passagers . Exactly this fact transforms this short film in a gem.
