Take cues from the kids

Just to add to the minority of voices finding the virtue in this movie, notice also that the music is interpretation of classical works (Carmen, Greensleeves) with very simple instruments, such as tambourines and kazoos. My toddler can play along for these scenes.

The story itself lives up to the promise of the title. As in, "remember that old tale of the talking cat and the miller's son? Well, here's what *really* happened." (wink) The tale is still full of magic and talking animals, but the focus is on music and romance with a healthy dose of excitement near the end.

Most of all my little guy is enraptured with this movie. Not recommending it for all toddlers, but ours is not quite 3 yet he gets the gist of the movie, finds sympathy for the characters and loves the music.
