Part of this was filmed in Scarborough in Yorkshire where they pretended it was Brighton by using computer graphics to show the pier. In one scene filmed there they forgot to cover the machine to pay for parking which did not exist at that time.

Martin Compston who plays John O'Hare was actually a professional footballer in Scotland., prior to getting into acting. He made two first-team appearances in the 2001-02 season for Greenock Morton in the Scottish Second Division. In both matches he appeared as a substitute and they lost 4-0, to both Alloa Athletic and Queen of the South.

The trivia item below may give away important plot points.

The film clearly implies Brian Clough was set-up by Yorkshire TV, when Don Revie suddenly appears in the studio, at the last minute, after Clough's sacking. This is untrue, as Clough knew that Revie was also to be a guest on the show.
