'The Deuce' Recap: Welcome to New York

'The Deuce' Recap: Welcome to New York
Let's get this out of the way: What we have just witnessed was, hands down, the best episode of The Deuce yet. By a lot. Titled "Au Reservoir," it's funny, scary, sad, sexy and entertaining as hell from start to finish. How did this so-so show get so damned good so suddenly?

The answers may lie behind the scenes. This episode was directed by co-star James Franco, who previously helmed one of the series' better installments. Judging from his two turns in the driver's seat, he's got a knack for

More Nazi Zombie News: 'Outpost: Black Sun' and 'Frankenstein's Army'

Since everyone loves Nazi Zombies as much as I do, I am thrilled to talk about two upcoming Nazi Zombie movies that look more than promising. Exciting is an understatement, even.

Today, Dark Sky Films released the first two official stills from Dutch director Richard Raaphorst’s Nazi Zombie horror film Frankenstein's Army.

This is someone called “Propellerhead”, described officially as "a hulking Nazi automaton that uses its spinning rotors to slice a bloody swath through the film’s terrified, lost Russian battalion."

And this is Doctor Frankenstein, as played by Karel Roden, dissecting someone unwilling to be dissected.

Like any good Nazi Zombie movie, Frankenstein's Army is set at the tail-end of World War II, when Russian soldiers accidentally find a secret Nazi laboratory as they enter Germany's eastern end. Apparently, the journals of Dr. Viktor Frankenstein are serving as the basis for human experimentation to form a -

Daniele Favilli Feels The "Swelter"

He left a big impression playing a conflicted gay immigrant on a recent episode of "Torchwood: Miracle Day". Now L.A.-based Italian actor Daniele Favilli tells Torchwood4fans that he's already involved in three more projects.

First up is director Keith Parmer's new "modern western feature film coming up called 'Swelter' in which I play one of the bad guys". Parmer helmed the Method Fest Audience Award winning low-budget indie "Mob Rules" (aka. "Tic") which marked Favilli's first American film.

After that he's doing a "science-fiction film with an Italian director who works internationally" and he's also involved in a series about the Renaissance artists in his birth city of Florence.

Trailer for Mob Rules (Originality reigns supreme)

Following up right on the heels for the trailer of Fiddy’s Blood Out, is this trailer for Mob Rules, which Lionsgate is releasing straight-to-dvd, on your local Redbox on May 17th.

But when I saw this trailer, I was totally struck by its originality, its creativity, its daring risk taking, its totally different approach to….Nah!!!! I’m just joshing. It’s the same ol’ gansta’, ghetto, in da’ hood, shoot-’em-up crapola that you’ve seen 1000 times before. This can’t be all that we can come up with. Also just as important – is there Still an audience for this stuff? Aren’t they tired of this stuff too?

The Creators Of Taken Return With Colombiana

After scoring a monstrous - and unexpected - worldwide hit with Taken I am honestly surprised that it has taken Luc Besson two years to launch another project with co-writer Robert Mark Kamen. But the duo are at it again with Transporter 3 director Olivier Megaton at the helm and Avatar's Zoe Saldana in the lead. The film is Colombiana.

Colombiana is an action-packed international tale of a young girl unwillingly thrown into a world of brutality, and ultimately, vengeance. Cataleya Restrepo witnesses the brutal murder of her parents at the hands of vicious Colombian crime Lord, Don Luis when she is only 10 years old. Cataleya manages to escape the assassin's bullets and find her way to Chicago to the safety of her uncle Emilio. Emilio tries to steer Cataleya away from a life of crime, but she is determined to become a professional killer, find Don Luis, and

2010 Atlanta Underground Film Festival: Official Lineup

The 7th annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival is like having four different fests crammed into an exhaustive three days on Aug. 27-29. It’s an outrageous underground fest, an animation festival, a documentary fest and a horror movie festival: The culmination of a month of fests run by Atlanta’s Festival League. There’s tons of short films, documentaries, features and more.

There’s lots of great stuff to recommend, too. On the last night of the fest, there will be a screening of Chris Hansen‘s second feature film, Endings, which tells the touching story of three people spending their last day on Earth together. The film was reviewed on Bad Lit a few months ago. On the short film front, there’s Loretta Hintz‘s wild lesbian bestiality (sort of) tale, The Sheep and the Ranch Hand and two films by the perpetually awesome Neil Ira Needleman, Meeskit
