Pixar’s ‘Turning Red’ Trailer: Meet Mei Lee, a Teen Who Transforms Into a Panda When She’s Stressed (Video)
According to Disney-Pixar’s new animated feature, “Growing up is a beast,” and in this case, they mean literally.

On Tuesday, Pixar dropped the trailer for the upcoming film “Turning Red,” which follows 13-year-old Mei Lee, a young girl (voiced by Rosalie Chiang) who turns into an oversized red panda whenever she’s stressed or excited.

Pixar director Domee Shi, who won an Oscar for her 2018 short, “Bao,” serves as writer and director. Sandra Oh will lend her talents to the film as Mei Lee’s overprotective helicopter- mother, Ming who, in the trailer, doesn’t appear to understand that spying on Mei at school isn’t beneficial for her daughter’s mental well-being.

The movie will encapsulate a number of firsts for the studio. “Turning Red” is the first Pixar feature film directed by a woman of color and the second to be directed by a woman (after “Brave

Pixar’s ‘Luca’ Is A Summery, Subtly Surreal Treat Unlike Anything The Studio Has Done Before [Review]

Pixar’s ‘Luca’ Is A Summery, Subtly Surreal Treat Unlike Anything The Studio Has Done Before [Review]
Back in 2012, Pixar released “Brave,” the offbeat “princess movie” set in the Scottish Highlands, and with it came “La Luna.” After watching the 7-minute short, “La Luna,” it was hard to focus on the feature. “La Luna” is one of the very best Pixar shorts, bristling with big-hearted charm, dynamic themes about family togetherness and the importance of a job well done, and draped in a distinctive style that set it apart not just from other Pixar shorts but from the features as well.

All 24 Pixar Movies Ranked, Worst to Best (Photos)

All 24 Pixar Movies Ranked, Worst to Best (Photos)
TheWrap’s film critic Alonso Duralde rates all the Pixar animation studio’s features:

23. Cars 2 (2011) “They should let people see the movie for free,” one pundit opined, “since Disney will make all their money back on the bedsheets.” Some of Pixar’s best movies are sequels, but this follow-up to an already inferior studio entry seemed like nothing but a craven bid for more merchandising money. The results were good for shareholders but middling for moviegoers.

22. Cars (2006) Never underestimate little boys and their love for automobiles. This brightly colored but dramatically flat tale is most enjoyed by a) male moviegoers who b) saw it before they turned 10 and c) have no idea that it tells virtually the same story as the Michael J. Fox comedy “Doc Hollywood.”

21. Cars 3 (2017) It’s a movie about middle age and the fear of obsolescence — you know, for kids! While Lightning (Owen Wilson

Space Jam 2 Clip Revealing Zendaya as Lola Bunny Sends Fans Into a Tasmanian Whirlwind

Space Jam 2 Clip Revealing Zendaya as Lola Bunny Sends Fans Into a Tasmanian Whirlwind
This weekend new footage from Space Jam: A New Legacy dropped unannounced on Twitter, and it saw Twitter go twit-twoo over the reveal of Lola Bunny's voice. In the new movie, Lola is played by Disney darling Zendaya, and if there is one guaranteed way of getting social media talking about a movie, then the Greatest Showman star's involvement is it. As soon as the short video clip appeared, Zendaya's army of fans took over the micro-blogging site to fawn over the actress and discuss some of her most iconic work, but not all of them feel that she is right as the voice of a character who has caused a few issues for the sequel.

The main sentiment among Twitter users was simple. We love Zendaya, but this just sounds like Zendaya and not Lola Bunny.

‘Soul’ becomes Pixar’s 11th Best Animated Feature winner (and makes history in the process for Pete Docter)

‘Soul’ becomes Pixar’s 11th Best Animated Feature winner (and makes history in the process for Pete Docter)
We’re not big on saying “told you so,” but we told you not to bet against Pixar at the Oscars, and we were right. The popular computer animation studio, which has received 15 nominations for Best Animated Feature since the inception of the category 19 years ago, took home another Oscar in the category when “Soul” triumphed over the competition during Sunday’s 93rd Academy Awards.

The film, which is Pixar’s first to feature a Black protagonist, was sitting in first place in Gold Derby’s combined odds heading into the ceremony. With 27 Experts predicting it to win, the movie had 3/1 odds of taking home the award and was miles ahead of the rest of the pack, which also included “Onward,” another Pixar film that was released right before the pandemic shut down theaters around the world. Rounding out the rest of the category were “Wolfwalkers,” “Over the Moon” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmaggedon.

‘Soul’ could give Pixar its 11th animated feature Oscar win and make history in the process

‘Soul’ could give Pixar its 11th animated feature Oscar win and make history in the process
If there is one rule to follow when filling out your Oscar predictions it is this: Do not bet against Pixar unless Sony’s “Spider-Man” is also in the running. While the popular computer animation studio doesn’t have a perfect record at the Academy Awards, it is the most decorated studio as the recipient of 10 Best Animated Feature awards. This year, Pixar actually has two films in the running for the first time — “Onward” and “Soul” — with the latter poised to become the company’s 11th animated feature winner out of 15 total nominations.

Soul,” which is Pixar’s first film to feature a Black protagonist, tells a moving story about a middle school music teacher (voiced by Jamie Foxx) who goes on an enlightening journey to reunite his soul with his body after they become separated just before he’s about to have the biggest break of his jazz career.

The frontrunners for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, “Soul” and “Wolfwalkers” so dominated the 48th annual Annie Awards on April 16 that all the other nominees left empty-handed. Friday marked the second of six days of final balloting for the 93rd Academy Awards.

Soul” won Best Studio Animated Feature over one of its Oscar rival, “Onward,” as well as “The Croods: A New Age,” “The Willoughbys” and “Trolls: World Tour.” “Soul” also prevailed in six other races: character animation, editorial, music, special effects, storyboards and writing.

Annie Awards: ‘Soul’ and ‘Wolfwalkers’ Sweep Feature Animation Honors
Pixar’s “Soul” and Cartoon Saloon’s “Wolfwalkers” swept Asifa-Hollywood’s 48th Annie Awards Friday night, with the former grabbing seven animated feature awards and the latter capturing five (plus the sponsored prize for “There’s a Monster in My Kitchen”).

The Black-led, existential fantasy “Soul” took best feature, writing, music, character animation, FX, storyboarding, and editorial. The hand-drawn Irish folk tale “Wolfwalkers” (co-produced by Apple Original Films) countered with best indie feature, direction (Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart), production design, character design, and voice acting (Eva Whittaker as Mebh).

Before sweeping the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and PGAs, “Soul” was already in a good position to win the Oscar. Now, after winning the top Annie prize, “Soul” is in a very comfortable position, with six of the last nine Annie winners agreeing with the Academy. This would mark Pixar’s 11th Oscar win for animated feature, and Docter’s third,

Annie Awards to Honor Trio of Groundbreaking Animators
When the International Animated Film Society (Asifa-Hollywood) presents its 48th Annie Awards virtually on April 16, a trio of influential artists will be bestowed Winsor McCay Awards for career contributions: Willie Ito, Bruce Smith, and a posthumous honor to Sue Nichols, whom Asifa describes as one of the few women who had a voice in the development of films such as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Mulan and Brave.

Ito says he knew his career path when he first saw Disney’s 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, but World War II meant that his family would be among the Japanese Americans ...

‘Come Away’ Blu-ray Review

‘Come Away’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Angelina Jolie, David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jordan A.Nash, Keira Chansa | Written by Marissa Kate Goodhill | Directed by Brenda Chapman

Peter Pan, Alice In Wonderland, Angelina Jolie and Kallus from Star Wars: Rebels sounds like a cracking Sunday afternoon to me… It has been a while since I got to see a decent movie based around the whole Peter Pan tale. I always thought 2003s Peter Pan with Jason Isaacs as Hook was far and away the best version, well outside of Hook obviously. Whenever a new film comes round, be it animated or live action, I am always keen to see how this one is going to play out and how they are going to make it fresh, original and different enough to warrant my attention.

I wouldn’t say I had the loftiest aspirations for Come Away to be honest; after all on the surface it kinda

Zack Snyder’s Justice League: DC Comics and Dceu Easter Eggs Guide

Zack Snyder’s Justice League: DC Comics and Dceu Easter Eggs Guide
This article contains Zack Snyder’s Justice League spoilers. We have a (relatively) spoiler free review here.

Well, they finally released the Snyder Cut! Zack Snyder’s Justice League is now out in the world (and streaming on HBO Max) and it’s four hours of the director’s undiluted, controversial take on the DC Universe. It’s even more packed with DC history than the “official” theatrical release, if you can believe that, and it builds out the world of the Dceu in some new and unexpected ways.

There’s no shortage of DC Comics Easter eggs in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and even nods to DC movies of the past. It’s a six course meal of a movie that DC superhero fans should savor, because we’re unlikely to ever see anything like this again.

We’ve tried to find all the DC references and lore in the film.

Kelly Macdonald: ‘I’m beyond sex scenes now. I just play detectives’

Kelly Macdonald: ‘I’m beyond sex scenes now. I just play detectives’
She shot to fame in Trainspotting, and has starred in Gosford Park, Boardwalk Empire and even as a Disney princess. So why did the Scottish actor panic about her new role in Line Of Duty?

Kelly Macdonald’s roles are typically quiet, fraught with internal conflict and entailing journeys that are more reflective than active. As a grieving mother in The Child In Time, a gangster’s wife in Boardwalk Empire and the titular role in The Girl In The Cafe, the 45-year-old has, over the last 25 years, become known for the kind of thoughtful performances signified by the image of a woman staring out of a window. All of which makes our encounter today doubly surprising; that Macdonald, appearing via Zoom from her home in Glasgow, is here to talk about Line Of Duty, possibly the least reflective TV show ever made. And that she is a complete hoot.

Series Review: Fantastic Fables: The Southern Seas (2021) by Chong Wu Koh
From the early days of animation with films such as Lotte Reiniger’s “The Adventures of Prince Achmed” and Walt Disney’s “Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs” fairy tales, legends and fables have inspired many of the stories and films we love. And this has not changed much in recent years with films such as Tomm Moore’s Irish Folklore trilogy, Hayao Miyazaki’s “Ponyo” and even Pixar’s “Brave” having at least their roots in folklore and old stories. For his A Viddsee Original Production “Fantastic Fables: The Southern Seas” director Chong Wu Koh also took inspiration from well-know tales from Singapore’s history and gave them in a modern update.

Fantastic Fables: The Southern Seas is streaming at Viddsee
