Spin-off

The Legend of Mor'du (2012) (Video)
short featuring some of the characters of Brave

References

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
Fergus says, "Guess who's coming to dinner?"
The Wicker Man (1973)
The witch's message to Merida (when she and her mother go to the cottage and find it empty) says that the witch is not home because she's attending the Wicker Man festival in Summerisle.
Labyrinth (1986)
The dialogue and voice of the Witch as she offers carvings to Merida recalls the Junk Lady's offering toys to Sarah in "Labyrinth."
Luxo Jr. (1986) (Short)
Luxo Ball is in the Witch's cottage
Aladdin (1992)
When the triplets are stealing cakes it mimics the market scene where Aladdin and Abu steal a melon from a fruit vender.
The Lion King (1994)
Mor'du, the main antagonist, has a large scar on his face, similar to Scar's.
Toy Story (1995)
The Pizza Planet truck is portrayed as a wood carving in the Witch's woodwork shop.
Princess Mononoke (1997)
The will-o'-the-wisps in Brave recall the guiding kodama forest spirits in Princess Mononoke. Both films end with an appearance of their respective spirit. Merida shoots arrows on horseback as a deliberate visual nod to Prince Ashitaka doing the same.
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
A relief carving of Sulley is visible in the Witch's cottage.
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003)
In the scene of Merida's day off, she can be seen charging through the forest on horseback, shooting arrows at pre-installed targets. The set-up is very similar (and in a few instances identical) to the scene in Lara Croft Raider: The Cradle of Life where Lara gallops through the woods and shoots targets with a shotgun.
Brother Bear (2003)
A major subplot is the same, and the line "Sorry. I don't speak bear," is used in the same context.
Monsters University (2013)
A relief carving of Sulley is visible in the Witch's cottage.
Dream Big Princess (2016) (TV Movie)
