Jennifer Lopez was first attracted to the script as she had just gone through her twins' pregnancy. Screenwriter Kate Angelo too had just been pregnant. The two had actually met at a post-birth aerobics class.
On one of the buildings in the neighborhood where Jennifer Lopez's character's pet store is, there is some graffiti (written inside the outline of a heart) that reads: "M.A. + J.L." This is an obvious reference to Lopez's former real-life husband, Marc Anthony.
Towards the beginning when Zoe and Stan get into the cab and they were arguing who seen the cab first they ask the driver. The driver then turns around and picks up a newspaper and the headline reads "don't Axe me" (don't ask me)
