A few friends get together and decide to make a movie...
27 March 2010 | by MartinHaferSee all my reviews

I don't think the folks who made this film had any real desire to make a film in a traditional sense. It looks much more like some friends getting together and making a short film they could all laugh at and enjoy. The home movie look makes it rough, but it's mild and a pleasant diversion.

The plot involves these guys making some parodies of various TV shows. There are many fake ads for a law firm spread throughout the film (this went on too long). The first show parodied is a talk show about the weather that is broadly acted (particularly by the Brit). The second is a funny takeoff of the film "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". Third, there's a news show that falls a bit flat (and could have used a retake on a couple lines). Fourth, a public service announcement about feeding your boyfriend (not a bad idea, but the music and style could have used work). Fifth, a how to drive segment (I just didn't get this). Sixth, some guy brushing his teeth--which, has nothing to do with TV.

I checked and the guys that made this film have no other production credits to their names. As such, I really think they should be cut a lot of slack--it wasn't like they were trying to make the next "Citizen Kane"! It gets a very generous 3, as with lots more work and experience, the guys could move on to better projects--especially since a couple of the skits could be polished and have potential. Hopefully, they can try some community theater or make a few more shorts and improve their craft.
