Following the death of his beloved psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Kroger, from a sudden heart attack, Monk decides to buy a house to get away from the neighbor girl, who constantly plays a Chopin prelude on the piano that reminds him too much of Dr. Kroger. The house he purchases is that of Joseph Moody, an elderly man who died recently in what the police presumed was an accident in which he fell down a flight of stairs. Needing help with a minor repair, Monk hires "Honest" Jake Phillips, a handyman who is everything but handy or honest. While learning that the house could literally be a "money pit," Monk discovers that the former owner's death was no accident, but discovers the truth too late, putting himself, and Natalie, in grave danger. Monk decides it's time to try out a new psychiatrist. Written by Lynne Boris Johnston

House hunting
26 July 2008 | by ctomvelu-1See all my reviews

Monk buys a house and gets a new shrink, all in one neatly produced episode that kicks off the show's 7th season. He buys the house for the wrong reasons, which have to do with his former shrink, and soon learns to regret it when he brings in a handyman who in offering to modernize it, tears the place apart. The handyman is played by the cop brother from EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and the new shrink is veteran actor Hector Elizondo. By the way, the house Monk buys was the scene of a horrible accident involving the previous owner (comedian Jack Carter). Monk soon figures out the man's death was no accident. There is a nice tribute to Stan Kamel, who played Monk's shrink through six seasons before dying of a heart attack, at the very end. Very nicely done, and I mean the whole episode.
