Trivia

The words Owen hears in the Dark Place and repeats in an ethereal growl are "Melenkurion abatha. Duroc minas mil khabaal." This is a reference to the Thomas Covenant series of novels by Stephen R. Donaldson. In the books, these are six of the seven Words of Power used by the people of The Land to summon Earthpower and Law, natural (and inherently good) magical forces. See more »

Quotes

[Martha has asked Owen to tell what death is like]
Owen Harper: There was a light, a tiny speck of light and I was rushing towards it, like down a corridor, and it got brighter, and brighter, then suddenly there were these gates... these big, pearly gates and there was this old geezer and he said, "You've been a very naughty boy!"

A new high for "Torchwood"; this is genuinely impressive drama
21 February 2008 | by DVD_ConnoisseurSee all my reviews

Confession time. Up until now, "Torchwood" has been something of a guilty pleasure. While I enjoy the show, I've never been fully satisfied. That is, until I watched "Dead Man Walking".

This latest episode delivers what I always expected from the series - grown-up, adult chills and gripping drama. "Dead Man" manages to create an atmosphere of genuine menace as well as tying in the more successful themes of the first series, including the dreaded "Resurrection Glove".

This is a solid achievement from the "Torchwood" production team and I can't wait to see what else they have lined up for the viewer. The latest plot arc is riveting television, helped by the appearance of one Martha Jones.

10 out of 10. The best episode since Season One's "Captain Jack Harkness".
