How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down On The Farm?
Leona Roberts is ironing the clothes, when the electricity goes out. So she goes to the shed where the generator is -- chasing the chicken from the garden along the way -- but there's no gasoline. So she drains the car, chases the chicken, puts the gasoline in the generator, starts it, chases the chicken, discovers the bread has burnt, so it's ham and eggs for dinner again! She tells her husband, Walter Beck, they should sell the farm. Her sister's husband has a job in the city that pays him $2000 a year, five times what they earned.

Beck sees she's worn out, and says she should go stay with her sister for a couple of weeks. When she does so, she discovers that city life at $40 a week isn't what it's cracked up to be.

It's an amusing if strident comedy. Who knew the Department of Agriculture made short comedy features in the silent era? Of the named cast and crew, only Miss Roberts had a substantial film career. She came off the stage to make this one, then on to Hollywood in minor, mostly uncredited roles. Still, here it was, 1926, the height of silent film making, and everyone wanted to get into the act.
