Storyline

This newsreel depicts the inner-workings of a bootleggers' facility for making and distributing illegal bootleg liquor. The participants, all of whom wear masks, mix liquids and pour them into bottles while a portly African-American worker keeps coming and going with supplies. A shot of the finished product, a pan across a row of bottles with clearly visible labels, is followed by a final shot of prohibition agents destroying the seized goods. Written by Anonymous

An honest to goodness newsreel?!
2 July 2009 | by MartinHaferSee all my reviews

This film is part of a DVD set entitled "Treasures III"--a set of four DVDs all about social issues and reform. The fourth disk (where you'll find this one) is about ethnic issues in particular.

I seriously doubt whether this newsreel is an honest to goodness documentary. While you see people who are supposedly bootleggers making illegal alcohol, I am very suspicious. First, who would record themselves doing something illegal (other than idiot teens)? And, who would be willing to wear masks for such a film? It sure looks very fake and scripted--which is what I can safely assume it was. Some times, in the good old days, if they couldn't film it live, they faked it.
