Silent Night

Silent Night is NOT the kind of Christmas film you should sit down for, just by seeing its poster and not knowing much else - I'm saying you should read its one-line plot and understand its genre(s). It's a dark comedy for sure, but the bleakness seeps in pretty early on (about 20 minutes in). The characters and their conversations are somewhat amusing because it's an odd mix of what people would do in their final moments. Still, they don't hold enough attention to really move, neither with their eccentric nature nor the impending tragedy. Roman Griffin Davis (who plays Art, the older son of the house where the end-of-the-world Christmas party's happening) does well in a role that proves he isn't a one-hit-wonder. It also helps that his mother, Camille Griffin, is directing the film - the script practically thrives on his performance alongside Knightley's and Goode's. Silent Night takes a while to hit its high points, which arrive towards its harrowing (and equally uproarious) finale, but it leaves you with an unclear political aftertaste.
