Storyline

The veterinary assistant Ulla have taken her job only for the opportunity to race on the small roads of Värmland. The big farmer's daughter Birgitta dreams about Paris but instead becomes Ulla's map-reader. Roffe has his car workshop across the yard from Eivors café where he is a diligent visitor. Eivor runs the café on the days and sings in the dance-band "Roffes with Eivor" on the evenings. The veterinary, Krook, is the district's big ladies-man. The local newspaper's editor Melin plays the drums in "Roffes with Eivor". Kenta, who works at Roffe's garage, also plays in Roffes dance-bands. Kenta is hugely in love in Ulla, but isn't equally delighted in her interests for car sport. Written by Karl Hägglund

Watchable but also very swedish
6 January 2021 | by hotdothedenSee all my reviews

I'm gonna be nice to this one giving it a seven as it's certainly not below five stars as the average rating.

Someone else already written all there is about the wonderful cars of the 1960's and it's also a time document of a lot of other stuff like the household school girls were expected to go for one.

With that said this is most probably lost to everyone that's not swedish and of a certain age. It follows a tradition from the Åsa-Nisse and Pilsner movies through Lasse Åberg's Sällskapsresan movies to movies like this one and none of them are made for or speaks to anyone outside Sweden as they all capture some of the swedish soul.

The one who maybe does that the best is, together with Lasse Åberg of course, is strangely enough Colin Nutley but sometimes maybe you have to stand outside watching in.

This is not a great movie and hardly above six stars but it has some of Sweden's Finest enrolled when it comes to this type of movies together with what i guess is lots of amateurs driving and showing off their great old rally cars from a time when men were men and cars were cars and is a golden age in many ways for me even if I appreaciate women's liberation and that's also one of the points this movie makes. I could do without silly Tesla cars or a hysteric and mentally challenged Climate-Greta though in this brand new world...
