In the original Jules Verne novel, Aouda is an Indian princess who becomes Phileas Fogg's love interest and wife.

She only appears in this episode as a village chief Fogg tries to help out.

Goofs
Fogg chides Passepartout for his sentimentality adding "No wonder you chaps (the French) don't have an empire!". This is incorrect: by 1872 the Second French Colonial Empire was well developed particularly in Africa, Indo-China and the South Pacific. By 1914 it was second in size only to the British Empire.

Around the world in 80 years

Or that is what it would take given how far they moved in this episode.

Seriously this episode was so slow a snail could outpace it. We got a pointless episode about an army deserter that has nothing to do with going around the world.

I'm only sticking with it for now as I love the original story but this is poor stuff.
