Goofs

When Paul fires his gun while lying on the ground, he is holding the gun in his left hand only, and sustains an injury to that hand from the slide pinching the skin between his thumb and index finger. This injury occurs frequently to an untrained shooter, but not as shown. That injury occurs when a novice shoots with both hands gripping the gun, and forgetting to have both thumbs on the same side of the gun. In that case, the injury is to the top (non gripping) hand, not the shooting hand. Paul was not using a two hand grip, and even if he had, the injury would have been to his right hand for a left hand shooter. See more »

Quotes

Ben: People rely on the police to keep them safe. That's the problem. The police only arrive after the crime has taken place. That's like. Trapping the fox as he's comin' out of the hen house. If a man really wants to protect what's his. He has to do it for himself.

Lazy lazy remake
29 April 2018 | by james-freelSee all my reviews

If you ever saw the original Death Wish starring Charles Bronson as the revenge seeking Paul Kersey, you will know exactly what I mean when I describe this as a lazy remake. Bronsons performance exuded pain, anger, simmering vengeance at every turn as he calmly and ruthlessly planned his revenge on the gang who murdered his wife and raped his daughter. The Bruce Willis Paul Kersey however, reacts with as much passion as someone who had mislaid their car keys. He's upset rather than distraught. And that is the main problem throughout this film, the overwhelming feeling of lethargy and indifference towards the plot. Even the cop in charge of the investigation played by Dean Norris is the most laid back uninterested cop ever. When he and his female sidekick eventually realise Willis may be the vigilante, they just can't be persuing it with any vigour. The eureka moment when Willis witnesses his father in law chasing intruders off his land with a few rounds from a shotgun is totally random and bizarre. Seriously, is this how he gets the idea for vengance? Willis in my opinion is badly miscast in the role, bringing the laidback carefree attitude of John McLean from his die hard movies when a more intense driven and troubled character is required. This film is lazy on every level, acting ,direction and screenplay simply going through the motions from beginning to end. It's a real pity because there is some good action in it, just enough to relatively entertain you and hold your interest. Sadly it could have and should have been so much better than it was. Ultimately you leave this film feeling short changed, it simply didn't deliver all that it promised. If you want to watch Death Wish I recommend the original.
