Enjoyable, but not relatable
cosmic-teapot11 July 2021
The amount of reviews calling out this show for not being the original amuses me. Obviously it's not going to be the same as the original and the change in the identity of Gossip Girl gives it a twist.

Unfortunately, based on the first episode alone, the characters just aren't likable or believable. Julien just can't make up her mind whether she is nice or not and Obie seems to the only character with promise.

I will definitely give it a fair go and not jump the gun to trash it as so many others have.

Can't replace original but I can deal with this
awansummiya8 July 2021
I was cringing thinking about seeing new people under same title but tbh it got me hooked. Not bad. Of course no one can replace real S and B but if you consider this storyline completely diff you might deal with the show. Can't believe I'm saying that I'm waiting for the next episode. Damn.

17 years old teachers
aboalhyjaa9 July 2021
What have i just witnessed ._.

Loved the idea but the episode was so rushed, it could've been a LOT better. And in some scenes the acting was terrible, especially when it to comes to the teachers scenes, they're the worst.

Not as bad as I expeced it to be
charlotore8 July 2021
You simply cannot touch the original Gossip Girl, so I expected this to be a trainwreck like every current edgy teen show. But this was honestly not that bad. I think it will take time to get used to the new characters, and honestly - they seem to have interesting stories coming up. The tribute to the original Gossip Girl blog and the original characters was my favorite part of the episode and it really gives you a feeling that the OG Gossip Girl is revived, but with a modern twist. I just hope this show won't take itself too seriously and give us a little more humour. Still, I know I will eb catching up!

[5.8] Ducks and worms in the gorgeous Upper East Side
cjonesas17 July 2021
Aside from the music, score and chic atmosphere of the Upper East Side, everything else is mild to straight horrendous in this reboot.

The actors and actresses shadows of shadows of the OG, though I'd cut some slack for Julien who shows good charisma and presence.

The teachers the worst wiggling things ever in a show. Destroy them, fast and hard in every episode!

Hold on for a moment, gather your thoughts and imagine the series in an obscure small town with nothing shiny in it and you'll better realize the dismal acting and presence of the whole cast, the poor screenplay and the fragmented artificial flow.

Still too early to completely choke the show, I'd give it a chance, but by the whole outsider view of it and its first 50min backbone, safe to assume that it would derail pretty much wide and soon.

Far from perfect but
entej10 July 2021
It wasn't that bad actually. I would give it a chance and watch more episodes. Even though all of these kids are horrible rotten people.

Renewed take on Manhattans Elite!
The reboot of Gossip Girls first episode was full of the rich, bratty drama that consumed the original but with a modern, edgy twist. The diversity of the characters is bound to make for an interesting storyline to come. I like how it incorporated aspects of the original by bringing up the OG's like Serena, Blair, Nate, Chuck, Dan etc. For me the original will always be a favourite. However, this episode has left me wanting more! Overall it seems like a fastidiously constructed reboot, with a reinvigorated take on what todays social elitism is. Gossip Girl 2.0 is bound to keep us on the edge of our seats and wanting more!

I'm surprised I'm saying this

Warning: Spoilers
I really thought this was going to be a trainwreck. As a fan of the original while it was airing, I thought this had no chance of standing up. But I'm finding myself excited at how much I'm enjoying it. I thought the characters would feel cringe, but they are mildly interesting enough.. I actually love the idea of making the teachers be gossip girl and specifically using Instagram. I was wondering how they were going to revive the "blog" aspect of gossip girl because no one likes blogs anymore. I hope people actually give this a chance instead of judging it for being "just another reboot"

I thought it was great!

Warning: Spoilers
I feel this episode was used to set up the storylines to progress in this season!

Julien and Zoya were for sure the standouts in this episode! I love the dynamic of them being sisters and everything, and Jordan portrays Julien so well!!!

I feel the teachers being GG is really campy and corny, I hope they aren't for long. I have a feeling someone else will end up taking it over. (I hope)

I think Julien, Zoya, Obie, and Max will be my favorites!

Boring...Watch the OGG!
zenbeing1912 July 2021
After watching this reboot with several "Gossip Girl" fans of varying ages, we all agreed it was a big disappointment.

Nobody cares about soulless influencers and intimidated teachers stalking kids in school.

The show tries to hard to be diverse and ends up boring us with bad writing and poor casting.

Some of the minions of the main character look about 28-32 yrs old (as old as the teachers.)

Disgusted, we cleansed our palate with 5 old episodes of the Original GG and went to bed very happy after revisiting Dan and his cool rockstar dad, Serena,, Nate, Chuck and Jenny They are irreplaceable.

Would have rather seen a show with them as adults years after.

Just when you think the original couldn't get any worse
TrioHaydos8 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first time it was unlimited toxic friendship, redemption arcs for potential if not rapists among other things... Maybe there was some good things too.

I was wondering good luck trying to deal with those kind of arcs THIS time around and at some point or other, you need to play those arcs to give your updated views on them especially given THE time we live in now... Otherwise the writers are just a bunch of dashes.

Well, I think they did one better... Let's it teachers shame students and act like adults because clearly why not... How can this go wrong... Maybe the premise will change or maybe not but clearly they are off to a great start in the insensitivity spectrum.

When will writers know the difference between redemption arcs, anti-hero type characters and simply bad behaviour, questionable or not. Pretty sure this is going to be worse than the first time around and that's saying something. But for those who love Blair and Chuck, you will probably love it... Revel yourself in more bad behaviour.

It was everything I expected and more
When I started watching the first episode I was scared of the possibility it was just going to be another reboot mistake. But I caught myself wanting more of the appetizing life style of the upper eat side elite. The drama. The fashion. The influence. Everything I wanted the gossip girl reboot to be. And lastly the characters of the show are a seamless representation of the new age of high schoolers. With the obsession of social media and it's influence on present day teenagers.

Don't cancel the show because it reminds you of original
kiwangreen10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Often people bring out reboots of shows or bring out shows because of they want to see how far it can go and I feel a lot of shows getting canceled more than being on air and I just think that we should give this show a chance it has potential it just need his nudge and his niche So I mean when has that it will be good you just have to let the characters grow on to you in the show even though it's a reboot it would never be better than the original one but I believe it will be good but a lot of people say that about charm and charm is going into his fourth season I just don't understand give it a chance.

Missed the point
jrast5230 July 2021
The whole point of the show is that there is a mysterious unknown person manipulating the hierarchy of the social structure. By outing the character portraying GG in the pilot, let alone first 10 minutes, you lose all sense of mystery that the original series had. Not to mention that it makes the character look vindictive and completely unprofessional. Hopefully she gets outed right away and leaves the show but passes on the account to someone anonymous so this show can get back on track.

Insanely good!
ndzag11 July 2021
So impressed with the quality of this reboot already. Although I didn't expect much I have been pleasantly surprised, from the acting to the scriptwriting to the directing to the cinematography it's all just phenomenal and majority of characters are loveable and think this has the potential to put do the original. I am loving the more sinister, dark and eerie feel about it! Thank you HBO for picking this up for a reboot!

Trashy
skye-493298 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This reboot should have left what is dead in the grave. No sense in dragging things up just to make them trendy... oooh covid mention, GG is not on Instagram... sooo trendy, only its not. This was in no way original or clever. OG GG did the siblings twist (TWICE). The characters are the same as the original, including the very open Chuck Bass character rip off. And name dropping Nate and Dan and the others was ridiculous and just trying to get interest from the fans of the original like myself, but falls short without actually bringing Dan in to explain the game. While on the topic of the game, the fact that it is teachers who somehow know where to get that panties pic from the rain night... That is called stalking if you are following and can get that picture. Also a picture like that of underage people in not appropriate and can get you on a certain registry! Also very disappointed that we KNOW who is behind the site, Original was way better with the mystery and no one knowing at all, not just them not knowing while its like a wink to the viewers that they know something the characters do not. This was all around Lazy. But being a first episode I hope it gets better, but really not holding out much hope and I hope this is one that does not last long and will leave the original to Rest In Peace!!

You're Gonna Love Me
nycweboy111 July 2021
Let's be clear: the revival of Kristen Bell's voiceover solves what would have been an obvious problem. By returning us to the voice (literally) of the GG we know and love, the new show makes a serious down payment on respecting what has come before. And that, really, makes a lot of difference. Some problematic plotting, and some questions of tone can get overlooked in a show that understands both the need for fresh stories and respect for familiar conventions. Too grown up, too knowing, these prep school kids are every bit as excessive as their alumni elders, but with plenty of fresh, now we know more, spin. And by adding in fresh class conflict with the teachers, the show takes the necessary dynamic of haves and have nots and sends it sideways. So, too, does reviving the Gossip Girl format in all her casual, unanticipated vindictiveness - as the show's anchoring events merrily whirl out of everyone's control, it's clear that GG itself is going to be key to unraveling the plot - much the way gossip, true or not, takes on a life of its own. Solid performances, capable writing, and that inimitable GG voice make this an irresistible mix. It will be a delicate, but not impossible balancing act to continue to land episodes as strong.

Dont mind the negative reviews
umer_salman14 July 2021
It was a good start. People want the whole stack of characters to be flushed out in the first episode, that can't happen. I am liking what I saw in the first episode. It's a bit too political in this episode, though, thats my only gripe. As a person outside the united states, I don't care for pandering. And I would like them to stop referencing the first show as well, new watchers will be lost.

Overall, I would love to see whats in store next episode.

I don't like anyone so far
garrett-565-102679 July 2021
Not hopeful for this. I really don't like any of the characters. The main cast comes off as terrible people without any redeeming qualities - they are privileged without interesting personalities like the OG. I dislike the teachers even more and certainly don't look foreword to learning more about them.

Strong start
hersongranillo-5997811 July 2021
One thing they have done right is that the story feels like one of its own, the references from the past GG were used in a way to introduce the viewer to this new era of GG, very understandable why... teachers are just treated like servants and they are looking for revenge by reviving GG... I found interesting the main storyline between the main characters Z and J, although one episode won't tell me much about the story, so far they have done a good job presenting the characters and situations that with lead to the development of the storylines this season... I have to say as a stand-alone episode gives great vibe and you keen to see more... the production is upper that photography and cinema pleased my eyes 100%... but, I am giving a 8 nonetheless, because, I think I need to see how the writing develops this episode was good.

Pretty Good.
manarpankaur15 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Tbh I went in with a dicey mind, people had already started calling it trash and giving it bad reviews. I was somewhat sure I was gonna hate it but I was pleasantly surprised. It is not as bad as people are making it out to be. Sure the characters are kind of a rip off but but then again weren't they supposed to be? Also isn't this too early to actually judge who to like and who not to? People that are talking about how the characters aren't very nice or that they cannot sympathize with Zoya probably don't remember that the OGs were not some saints, they were also horrible at times. Moreover, didn't we all hate Dan by the end? The OG wasn't perfect as well, maybe we are putting a bit too much of pressure at the reboot, give it a chance. The teacher drama is a bit annoying and unrelatable and I hope that they change it later in the show but I am glad that they revealed who was GG so it wouldn't be a mess at the end all over again. Overall, looks pretty promising to me.

Calm down everyone it's not that bad! Maybe it helped that I didn't really like the original but I didn't expect much but t it is engaging. It is not as good as aEuphoria but it has its own flavor and it's fun! The kids are cute they all can act enough..it's a fun Summer guilty pleasure! Let's not take things so seriously! Stop comparing it to the old version it wasn't perfect! Xoxo.

wow...
pm-9800214 July 2021
So bad on so many levels. Not even sure where to begin.

Why are all the high school students played by 30 year old actors? The teachers and students all look like they're the same age.

YouTube has much better content.
