Immortal

A very brilliant documentary that shows many layers - that are sometimes a little hidden - of sentiments without any literal narrative. For example, we are not shown what the cadet boys are watching, but from their palms-clenching gesture, we can deduce that they're feeling a little tense.

Then, there's the interconnectedness of things - marching dance of the girls overlaps with the locomotive rhythms which then overlap with men marching.

Contrasts are also sensitively portrayed - fire over ice, men's willpower to overcome the extreme cold, machismo being fed with fear, etc.

It's one of those rare documentaries that manage to make you ponder over many questions, particularly about the human conditions, instead of dispensing overly simplistic answers.
