While meandering, it's strong direction and tone collects a good steam.

Filmmakers Chiang Wei-liang and Yin You-qiao have an interesting concept about migrant caregivers in Taiwan and a subject that hasn't been discussed often beforehand. With beautiful camerawork and sound designs, the presentation and direction clearly establishes the tone, atmosphere, and environment pretty well. As their first debut, the filmmakers have a good sense of what they are wanting to tell and approach.

Throughout, the narrative explores some interesting concepts and ideas. Provided with solid performances and some emotional sequences throughout within the bleak and depressing narrative structure. Helping to build the realism and bleak moments of society and human nature. I do appreciate the concepts and atmosphere as the direction clearly is passionate on discussing it's subject and situation. Included with some interesting dialogue choices and cultural themes.

However, some of the slow structure and underdeveloped characters at times, does cause it to lose it's steam. I don't mind slow paced movies but because the characters aren't fully developed, I can't fully engage nor connect with some of the themes and characters as I would have loved. Almost as if the movie feels one-dimensional at times.

Nevertheless, I do appreciate what the movie is going for. Despite it's flaws, this really is a good debut because it has it's impressive moments for sure. Art-House Taiwanese Cinema offers some interesting works of art.
