Storyline

Mr. Arnold goes to school to tell Mr. Robson that Jessica has been diagnosed with M.E. Her father is distressed at her depleted condition. Life at home is evidently troubled - he is wearing odd socks. Mr. Robson does a swap, and himself has to wear the only others to hand - bright pink socks from the drama studio. Wayne continues to terrorize Poppy - scribbling in a textbook, and implicating her as having done it. Miss Carver senses there's something more than Poppy's unhelpful denial, but the girl won't explain further. The Arnolds have an offer that bucks up Jessica when she hears it - her aunt in California has asked her to stay. Dennis is envious of another boy's smart looking jacket he bought while on an exchange trip to the States. He and Lucy go to see Jessica, and hear of her impending trip to the U.S. He then has the brainwave that he can make use of her location to get into business selling cut-price, American jackets. He ropes in Dudley and Josh, and gets some up-front ... Written by Geffers
