Storyline
| Plot Summary |
Alice (Keke Palmer) yearns for freedom as an enslaved person on a rural Georgia plantation under brutal and disturbed owner Paul (Jonny Lee Miller). After a violent clash with Paul, she flees through the neighboring woods and stumbles onto the unfamiliar sight of a highway--and soon discovers that the actual year is 1973. Rescued on the roadside by a disillusioned political activist named Frank (Common), Alice quickly comprehends the lies that have kept her in bondage and the promise of Black liberation. Inspired by true events, "Alice" is a modern empowerment story that traces Alice's journey through the post-Civil Rights Era American South. |

| Trivia | The story is based on the very real history of black Americans still being enslaved even after the Emancipation Proclamation. The most prominent example of this, on which the movie is based, is the life of Mae Louise Walls Miller. She didn't get her freedom until 1961, when she ran away from the plantation and found a family that rescued her and her family.
