Max's engagement party is interrupted by news of a grotesque series of murders in Vienna's slums. Oskar quickly arrests a suspect and finds circumstantial evidence to support a conviction. But Max isn't convinced they've got the right man.
Queen Of The Night was a better episode after the underwhelming series opener. Unfortunately the writing is still clunky.
Max Liebermann has got engaged to Clara who is understanding about his work in helping the police solve crimes. Clara wants to know more about his work and wants to help him. Unfortunately it leads her into danger.
Max's engagement party is interrupted as Oskar is called to some grisly murders. A quick arrest is made but Max fears that the wrong person is arrested. Max surmises that the killer might had been a soldier. Clara who is not getting much attention from Max gets wooed by a poetic but unscrupulous soldier.
This is a Vienna that is becoming more anti foreigner and anti semitic. This is touched on regarding the murder victims as well as Max's father to get in with the influential people of Viennese society.
There is also Max's relationship with Clara and him being spellbound by the female doctor he committed to hospital. Max cannot get her out of his mind.
Oskar is still reluctant to have Max about but appreciates his insights. Oskar is very much the Watson to Max's Sherlock.
However there is a zippiness and verve missing in the adaption of the novels. Steve Thompson lacks the input that Moffat/Gatiss bought in the Sherlock series.
