- Now
Sheldon tells a therapist that sometimes he feels at odds with the whole world. He describes how are strange with Grace, Chloe is out of control, and Brandon killed Blackstar and 78% of the country agrees with his decision. Sheldon is hurt that 78% of the country believes that the code he's lived his life by is meaningless, and the therapist wonders why the number means so much. Sheldon wonders what the use if of doing good if no one perceives it that way.
The therapist asks when the idea of being good became so important to Sheldon, and he says that it was a few days after his father died in '29. Sheldon describes how he took a shot of whiskey after reading every paragraph that Grace wrote about Chester, and he decided to reverse the "sins" of his father by being everything that Chester was not.
1929
Jane cuts Sheldon some pie, and Sheldon remembers the coordinates at the Miller barn and sees Chester's ghost seated at the table with him. He remembers Miller telling him that it's always somebody close, and Jane continues to talk about their wedding venue while Sheldon tries to concentrate past the visions. Sheldon failures and goes to the mausoleum where Chester is entombed.
Gagging at the stench, Sheldon takes his father's pocket watch from his suit pocket, closes the coffin lid, and stares at the watch.
Hutch takes Chloe to the hospital and sits at her bedside. When she wakes up, he tells her that she took something that doesn't belong to her. Chloe asks Hutch what he's going to do about it, Hutch smiles.
On the farm, Sheldon is pulling a plow through the field. Lady Liberty flies down, and Sheldon tells her that he wanted to get his hand dirty rather than use the tractor. She says that she's been busy dealing with a volcano eruption. Sheldon tells his wife that Brandon isn't there, and he sent their son to the Union to see the clone's autopsy. He says that Brandon needs to see it, and Grace tells Sheldon that he doesn't get to make that decision by himself. Sheldon points out that Grace wasn't there, and insists that Brandon needs to see that there are consequences to his actions.
Grace says that it's a punishment, not a lesson, and Sheldon insists that they're not exclusive. She tells her husband that Brandon already knows that he screwed up, and let Utopian down, and rubbing Brandon's nose it in won't help. Sheldon insists that Brandon needs to learn about responsibility and accountability, and Grace walks off in disgust.
Walt visits Brandon at the Union hall, as Brandon waits for Barnabas Wolfe. Walt asks how his nephew is doing, and Brandon irritably insists that he's fine. Walt doesn't believe him, and Brandon asks Walt what he would have done. His uncle tells him that he doesn't have an answer, but they're there because Brandon made a decision and nothing can change that.
Wolfe flies in, and tells Brandon that if Grace had any sense then she would have married him instead of Sheldon. They go down to the morgue where Petra and Fitz are waiting with the corpse, and Barnabas uses his powers to separate the armor fused with the clone's flesh. Fitz then autopsies the body, and finds a metal sphere inside the body. Barnabas uses his powers to open it, revealing a pocket watch inside.
1929
Sheldon goes to George's manor, winding his father's pocket watch. He tells George that the windmill from his vision was real, and shows George the coordinates he found there. Sheldon figures there's an island at the coordinates, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and everything that has happened is about the island. George asks for details, and Sheldon tells him that Miller shot and killed his family, then killed himself in front of Sheldon. Sheldon explains that he had a vision of Walt, Fitz, Grace, a couple of people he didn't recognize, and George, around the Miller family table in the cellar. George asks his friend what he thinks is out there, and Sheldon figures that it's something that is going to change the world.
When Sheldon asks him for help, George asks what Sheldon would do if he came to him with such a story. Sheldon says that he would believe him, and George agrees.
Now
The therapist asks Sheldon if his dream is always the same, of Chester killing himself without recognizing Sheldon. His therapist tells Sheldon that parents aren't supposed to abandon their children of their own free will, and a child figures he did something bad to deserve it. The therapist, Jack Hobbs, point out that Sheldon's adversaries to kill Sheldon, and Sheldon agrees. Jack notes that the Union must always remember the Code, and it's a way of Sheldon keeping himself alive in the minds of the people he loves, the way that Chester couldn't.
Later at the farm, Sheldon takes the pocket watch out of a case, then shows it to Walt and Grace. Walt confirms that it's identical to the one they found in the clone. Walt figures that only George could have built the sphere in the body, and they wonder why George would want to kill them and hide the watch in the clone. Walt figures that it's somehow George' joke, and Sheldon suggests that there's someone who could help them.
Sheldon finds Hutch in an alleyway, and tells him that they need to talk. Hutch uses the Rod to teleport to Iowa, then runs down the road he's appeared on. Sheldon flies there, having heard Hutch say where he was going, and blasts the road in front of Hutch and knocking him flying and knocking the Rod out of Hutch's hand. Sheldon holds the Rod even when Hutch tries to summon it back to him, then tells Hutch that they need to talk about his father... George.
1929
Sheldon and George go to the newspaper to find Grace, and discover her arguing with her editor Larry. She sees Sheldon and figures that he's there to sue her about the story she wrote on Chester. Sheldon apologizes about how he acted toward her the last time he was there, and George tries to flirt with her. Grace is unimpressed, and tells the two men that she's leaving because they cut the staff because of the Crash.
Grace is packing and yells, demanding who has her coffee mug. As she spots it and goes get her, Sheldon says that they have to take her along because he saw her in the cellar. When Grace comes back, Sheldon offers her a job to chronicle the expedition that he's mounting. When she asks what they're going, George says that it doesn't matter because it's a paying job. Grace asks why Sheldon picked her, and he starts to say he had a vision. George hastily adds that Sheldon had a vision of a better future for Grace and the county.
Now
Grace goes to the morgue and looks at the body, and finds Brandon there. She gives her son the sandwich she brought for him, takes a bite of it when he declines, and Grace asks why he's still there. Brandon says he's been thinking about what if Blackstar had killed one of his family, and wonders why that would be better. Grace tells him that it wouldn't, and Barnabas, Fitz, and Walt come in. Barnabas turns on the charm with Grace, and transforms her dress to red because she "looks better" in it. Grace thanks Barnabas for his assistance on behalf of the Union, and Barnabas says that Walt has invited him to stay. Walt and Fitz explain that Fitz is going to reanimate part of the clone's brain and Walt is going to telepathically probe it, and they need Barnabas to reconstruct the affected regions.
1929
Willie and Fitz return home, and Willie says that they'll find a job somewhere. They find Sheldon and George in the kitchen having tea with Willie's wife, Birdie. Birdie leaves so they can talk privately, and Willie demands to know what Sheldon and George are doing there. Sheldon explains that he wants Fitz to join his expedition, and Fitz angrily says that he doesn't need any favors. Willie claims that they can't say where they're going because they don't want word to get out, and the two men say that they're paying Fitz six months' wages and split whatever they find equally. Sheldon insists that when they find what they're looking for, they'll be able to hire everyone at the mill back, including Willie. Fitz says that his family needs him there, and George leads Sheldon out.
As they leave the house, Fitz watches them go and tells his father that the Sheldon had nerve coming to them after what happened at the mill. Willie says that he got George and Sheldon out so he could discuss family business privately, and tells Fitz that Sheldon is trying to make things right for what Chester did. He says that he wants to Fitz think about the issue rationally and there's nothing there for Fitz work-wise and because he's black.
In the car outside, Sheldon insists that they need Fitz. Fitz comes out of the house and tells them that he'll go, but wants his pay up front. Sheldon immediately agrees and promises that everything will be all right, then goes back into the house. The two men drive off.
Now
Sheldon takes Hutch to a diner and Hutch says that he hasn't seen George since he was 12. He says that George left him and whatever Sheldon thinks of him, it has nothing to do with him. Sheldon says that he never thought George would turn on the Union, and Hutch says that his mother told him that the Union turned on George. Sheldon tells Hutch that he needs to talk to George before things get further out of control, and suggests that Hutch use the Rod to take them to George. Despite that, Hutch takes out the Rod and tells it to take them to George.
Sheldon and Hutch teleport into a strip club. Hutch tells Sheldon that the Rod teleports him to a strip club every time he tells it to take him to his father, and Sheldon tells Hutch to let him know if George reaches out to him, and then leaves.
1929
Sheldon and George go Walt, who says that he needs to stay there and deal with the board. Walt explains that the board voted them out and selling the company, and they'll be lucky if they keep the house. Sheldon insists that none of it matters, sends George out so they can talk privately, and tells his brother about the vision of the coordinates and there's something out there that is going to change their lies. When Sheldon says that he needs Walt, Walt says that he needed Sheldon there and Sheldon says that none of it matters. After a moment, Walt says that it mattered to him.
Now
Hutch and Cole have sex at Hutch's place, and afterward tells her that Sheldon visited him earlier. Chloe worries that Sheldon will intimidate Hutch away from her like Sheldon has done with her other lovers. Hutch explains that Sheldon came to him about George, and that he told Sheldon most of the truth. He says that Sheldon doesn't scare him, and they make love again.
1929
George goes to see Walt, knowing what he said to Sheldon earlier. George tells Walt that he can't care about someone he's jealous of it, and accuses George of feeding Sheldon's delusions. When George tells Walt that he's clinging to the delusion of saving Sampson Steel, Walt snaps at him and George says that it's about saving himself. Sheldon is just trying to do the same in his own way, and Walt believes that there is something at the coordinates. George admits that he doesn't know, but figures that Sheldon needs the journey to heal, and he may not be the only one
Later, Sheldon is at home packing, and asks Jane to come with them to Morocco where they're getting the ship. He explains that George convinced Walt to go with them, and Jane asks if he saw her in her vision. Sheldon admits that she wasn't, and she returns his engagement ring and leaves.
Now
Jack asks Sheldon what his thought process was after Jane left him, and Sheldon says that he thought it was a punishment for not being good enough. He figures that they can't prevent loss or tragedy despite the Code, but the world never used to be so intentionally cruel. Jack says that the world has always been chaos and shit, and that Sheldon created the Code to shield himself from reality. He says that Sheldon exists in a world of his own creation, good and evil, and it's protected him from the most part. However, it isn't reality, which is shades of grey.
Jack says that they're time is up, and Sheldon thanks Jack for letting him speak even though he's tried to kill him. Newspaper are framed on the wall, with headline saying that Jack is a super-villain that is now locked up in Supermax. Jack tells Sheldon that Sheldon always knows where to find him, and Sheldon leaves the cell.
