One of the wildest stories of the month has been the reveal that David Fincher will direct Brad Pitt in a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood from a script by Quentin Tarantino, which will premiere on Netflix. It still seems bonkers. However, more details have emerged for the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel, including a possible title.
A little tidbit about the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel was buried in a Deadline interview with Michael B. Jordan. In it, Mike Fleming Jr. mentioned that he’s heard that the sequel will be called The Continuing Adventures of Cliff Booth. Not only that, but Booth will apparently embark on a new career as he becomes a Hollywood studio fixer. Sounds like a good fit for Booth, as he’s already proven that he will do whatever he needs to, including murder.

Netflix Co-CEO Says They’re Not in China Because ‘Not a Single Episode’ Cleared the Censorship Board

If you think there’s seemingly no one who doesn’t have a Netflix account or who hasn’t seen “Squid Game,” there’s about 1.4 billion people in China who haven’t signed up, and the streamer’s co-ceo Ted Sarandos is just fine with that.
In a conversation with Semafor as part of the World Economy Summit in Washington on Wednesday, April 23, Sarandos said he spent years working to get a foothold in China at a time when everyone in Hollywood felt that that was the only way to truly be successful or to reach a billion dollars at the box office. In fact, while there was a period where the Chinese box office was a true gold mine for certain films that passed the test, it’s largely become less of a factor for many American movies.
Sarandos revealed that all of that effort eventually got him nowhere.

Ted Sarandos, co-ceo of Netflix, said the entertainment industry “certainly gets overlooked” in U.S. trade deals.
From 2020-24, Netflix contributed $125 billion to the U.S. economy, creating 140,000 production jobs across 500 productions in all 50 states, according to Sarandos, speaking at Semafor’s World Economy Summit 2025 in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. “The lion’s share of our investment is in the U.S.,” he said, noting that the company has 9,000 employees in the country, with 3 million square feet of studio space and 2 million square feet of office space.
“We kind of get thrown under the bus in trade deals occasionally,” Sarandos said, adding, “You hardly ever see a sitting president photographed on a studio lot.” Semafor editor-in-chief Ben Smith, who interviewed Sarandos, alluded to President Trump: “You’d think this one would be into it.” Sarandos chuckled and responded, “I’m not sure.”

Star Wars has had a rough run of late — the last theatrical release in the franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, was derided by longtime fans and underwhelmed at the box office in 2019 — save for one shining property: Andor, creator Tony Gilroy’s acclaimed exploration of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story breakout character Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) in the years before he helped steal the plans for the Death Star and jumpstart the Rebel Alliance. The Emmy Award-nominated series returns this week for its second and final season with rave reviews and building enthusiasm among its fans. Andor Season 2 picks up one year after the events of Season 1, with the title character building his legend. The 12-episode season covers four years in total (every three-episode block tracks one year in the story), and will run right into the beginning of Rogue One.
Ahead are some instant Emmy predictions for Andor.

It’s both a Wednesday and a huge Wednesday news day.
Netflix has released the first trailer (below) for its highly anticipated second season of the goth-horror-comedy hit, which stars Jenna Ortega as the morbidly inclined Wednesday Addams.
The streamer has also announced the second season premiere dates, as the show will be released in two batches. The first part will be released Aug. 6 and the second will be released Sept. 3.
In the trailer, Wednesday returns for a second year at Nevermore Academy, a private school for outcasts. Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) notes her daughter has never wanted to return to school before, and Wednesday deadpans back, “It’s like returning to the scene of a crime — I already know where the bodies are buried.” Later in the trailer, she notes, “I do my best work in the dark.”

“Wednesday” Season 1 established Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton as a fresh creative duo, but the overwhelming box office success of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has proven that their success was far from a fluke. The film has only raised expectations for Season 2 of the “Addams Family”-inspired Netflix series, and a new teaser for the season has given fans their first look at the latest batch of episodes.
Netflix has now revealed that Season 2 of “Wednesday” will be broken into two parts. Part 1 returns on August 6, 2025, and Part 2 returns on September 3.
The first teaser opens with a sequence of Wednesday going through airport security and getting stopped and frisked by a Tsa agent. She unveils an embarrassing number of deadly weapons and torture devices on her person, but her real cardinal sin is Thing bringing along a small tube of sunscreen. It also shows Wednesday returning to Nevermore — the first school she...

Netflix is expanding its content and production strategy across Asia, according to remarks by Minyoung Kim, Vice President of Content for the Asia-Pacific region (excluding India), during the company’s Apac showcase in Tokyo. The platform is increasing investment in original programming, adding new countries to its zombie slate, and continuing to test approaches to live sports coverage.
South Korea remains a major focus. Netflix’s 2023 commitment to invest $2.5 billion over four years is still in progress, and Kim confirmed that spending is aligned with or above expectations. Programs including Squid Game have anchored the platform’s position in global markets, with Season 3 of the series scheduled for release on June 27. Filmed in tandem with Season 2, the new episodes continue the story that drew high viewership and sustained global attention.
Alongside original productions, Netflix maintains licensing agreements with Korean broadcasters such as Jtbc and Sbs, as well as conglomerate Cj Enm.

Netflix’s The Devil’s Plan has viewers addicted!(Photo Credit –Netflix)
If Squid Game had you glued to your screen, chances are The Devil’s Plan is about to be your next Netflix fixation. Forget the blood, keep the brain games, this Korean reality show blends high-stakes mental warfare with the cunning social strategy of Survivor and the tension of Big Brother, all wrapped in a sleek seven-day showdown.
Brains Over Brawn: The Premise
The show, which premiered in September 2023, stormed onto the scene with a Rotten Tomatoes score that nearly scraped the ceiling, sitting pretty at 92%. And it’s no mystery why. Crafted by Jung Jong-yeon, the mind behind The Genius, this one doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to intellectual combat. Twelve contestants, each a star in their own right, are locked into a psychological gauntlet where trust is fleeting and every move counts.

Minyoung Kim, Netflix’s VP for Apac content (excluding India), has quietly become one of the biggest players in the global ecosystem at the world’s leading streamer. She has seen Korean titles grow to become the second-highest-performing content on the service — just behind U.S. shows and films globally, according to Ampere Analysis — with Japanese anime and drama programs also picking up significant steam in recent years.
Kim sat down with Deadline at the streamer’s Apac showcase in Tokyo to talk about Netflix’s growing budgets and wider plans for Asia, the future of live sports programming in the region, and breaking into the zombie genre for the first time in Thailand and Indonesia with Ziam and Elixir.
Of course, South Korea has become a jewel in Netflix’s crown, with global hits such as Squid Game, Kingdom and All of Us Are Dead produced out of the country.

Season 1 of Squid Game landed in 2021 like a bombshell, becoming Netflix’s most-watched series ever. It wasn’t just a show; it was a cultural phenomenon. By the time Season 2 rolled around, expectations were sky-high. While it broke records, it didn’t quite grab the world by the throat the way its predecessor did.
Was it too much competition from other streaming hits? Or just the challenge of following an iconic debut? Either way, Season 3 has shaped up to be the series’ final act, and I’m already pacing with anticipation. Will Gi-hun finally dismantle the games? What’s the deal with those stolen organs? And can we get some closure for, well, anyone?
Here’s my wishlist of everything I’m dying to see when Squid Game returns. Get ready for wild theories, emotional reunions, and maybe even a few deaths that’ll leave us sobbing into our popcorn.

The five-episode limited series premieres Thursday, May 22 on Netflix.
I’m a sucker for shows about rich people behaving badly, and “Sirens” looks like it’s coming for the crown. It’s got a billionaire’s beach estate, sister drama, and Julianne Moore playing what might be the most hypnotic boss from hell since Miranda Priestly. But this isn’t just another glossy soap. Created by Molly Smith Metzler (“Maid”) Sirens leans into dark comedy, family dysfunction, and culty island vibes — with a little Greek mythology energy for good measure. And with a cast that includes Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, and Kevin Bacon? Yeah, I’m all in. Here’s everything you need to know about “Sirens.”

While Hollywood scrambles to reverse-engineer global hits, Netflix’s secret to creating the phenomenon “Squid Game” turns out to be surprisingly simple.
In an entertainment landscape where global streaming platforms often chase universal appeal, Netflix finds worldwide success by doubling down on cultural specificity. Minyoung Kim, Netflix’s VP of content for Asia (ex-India), reveals that the streaming giant’s local-first strategy was behind the unprecedented success of “Squid Game” and continues to drive the platform’s content decisions across Asian markets.
“When I commissioned ‘Squid Game,’ we were never trying to find a global show,” Kim says during a wide-ranging industry conversation with Variety during the streamer’s ongoing Asia Pacific showcase in Tokyo. “We always look for stories that are going to have an impact in the local market, that is going to really touch our local audience.”

Netflix has amassed a truly massive library of hit TV shows at this point. While that list includes oft-cited favorites such as "Stranger Things" and "Squid Game," there is nothing in the streamer's library quite like the teen-focused series "Outer Banks." Part mystery, part drama, part adventure, it's captivated viewers somewhat quietly for four seasons now, with a fifth and final season on the way. Though not usually thought of amongst Netflix's most successful shows, it has proved to be quite popular.
"Outer Banks" centers on a group of realistic, sometimes foolish teens known as the Pogues in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There exists a divide between the Pogues and the Kooks, the name given to wealthy seasonal residents. A hurricane kills the power for the summer season and it sets off a chain of events that sets the show in motion.

Last year, Alan Ritchson’s Reacher dominated Nielsen streaming charts for weeks with Season 2 of the Prime Video hit until he was finally dethroned by the arrival of Young Sheldon’s first six seasons on Netflix. Now the mighty mercenary’s third season has been toppled from the top of the Nielsen by another youngster - the incredible Owen Cooper, who became a sensation as the lead in Netflix’s intense crime drama, Adolescence.
Reacher enjoyed a strong run at the top of the Nielsen charts for several weeks since the debut of its latest season, but if there was any series that was going to kill off Reacher’s run, then it was likely to be the Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne-created series which has made an instant star of teenager Cooper, and is expected to pick up multiple awards at the end of the year.

Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos saw his total pay package rise to $61.9 million in 2024, while co-ceo Greg Peters brought in $60.3 million.
The pay package for Sarandos included a base salary of $3 million, unchanged from the prior year, as well as stock awards of $42.7 million, in addition to a $12 million bonus. Last year, his total pay package was $49.8 million, as no stock awards were granted to him in 2023 (or in 2022).
The pay package for Peters also included a base salary of $3 million, up slightly from $2.89 million the prior year, as well as a $12 million bonus and $42.7 million in stock awards. His total pay package was up from $40.1 million in 2023, as he also did not receive stock awards at that time.
The slight difference in salaries came as Sarandos earned slightly more in options awards and had a slightly higher value under “other compensation,” which includes use of the corporate aircrafact.

Netflix, which financial analysts have crowned the undisputed subscription-streaming leader, kicks off the media and entertainment sector’s Q1 earnings this week. Wall Street anticipates that Netflix will report strong results for the period — the first quarter it will no longer disclose subscriber counts — and that the company is relatively well positioned to withstand economic headwinds.
Netflix is scheduled to report Q1 2025 results Thursday, April 17, after market close. Wall Street consensus estimates are for quarterly revenue to come in at $10.51 billion (up 12% year over year) with earnings per share of $5.66 (up 7%), according to Lseg Data & Analytics. That’s slightly above the company’s previous guidance for revenue of $10.42 billion and Eps of $5.58.
“Given macro volatility, we view Netflix as arguably the most defensive stock in our coverage universe amid any broader slowdown,” Td Cowen analysts led by John Blackledge said in an April 8 research note.

Move out of the way, Stranger Things! There's a new Netflix show rising up the all-time Netflix Top 10.
According to Netflix, Adolescence is now the third-most popular English language Netflix show of all time, one spot behind Stranger Things season 4. Adolescence has racked up 124 million views since its premiere on March 13, only 17 million views, roughly, behind Stranger Things season 4.
Netflix tracks this data and shares it for a new show or season's first 13 weeks after release, so by my unofficial calculation, Adolescence has about seven or eight more weeks to rack up 17 million views, pass Stranger Things season 4, and settle in at the No. 2 spot on the all-time Netflix Top 10. Netflix shared that Adolescence racked up another 9 million views this week, so it's probably going to happen within the next two or three weeks.

Earlier this week we brought news that South Korean content is now second only to the U.S. on Netflix, but it appears Korean audiences are opting for YouTube over the streamer.
According to new research from Digital-i, which examined YouTube viewing for the first time, South Korean people with active YouTube accounts spent a whopping 210 minutes (3 hours 30 minutes) per day watching the platform in the final quarter of last year, which was second only to Japan (214 minutes) in the countries measured.
Koreans who subscribe to Netflix spent less than half that time (96 minutes) watching the streamer, which airs Korean hits like Squid Game, Love Next Door and Queen of Tears.
Digital-i found by far and away the biggest gap between YouTube and Netflix viewing in Japan and South Korea, with other nations much more equal. In the U.S., active Netflix subs watched 117 minutes of Netflix per day in...

Shares of Netflix jumped 5% on Tuesday following a Wall Street Journal report that the streaming king has set its sights on a $1 trillion market capitalization by 2030.
The Journal noted that the company is aiming to double its revenue from $39 billion last year and generate roughly $9 billion in global ad sales by 2030. Netflix executives are also looking to triple operating income from $10 billion last year and grow its subscriber base to around 410 million in that time. Per WSJ, Netflix plans to reach these targets by increasing its international subscriber base in markets such as India and Brazil.
Netflix, which currently boasts 301.63 million users globally, reported $39 billion in revenue and $10.42 billion in operating profit for 2024. Its market capitalization currently sits $419.48 billion.

Just days after The Pitt's first season hung up its stethoscope, Noah Wyle's Emmy odds continue to rise.
The Best Actor contender, who plays Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, received rave reviews for the storyline in which he had a mental breakdown after losing yet another patient while working an all-day shift. One month ago, Wyle ranked in fifth place to win Best Drama Actor among the Gold Derby odds, but buoyed by positive word-of-mouth for his performance on The Pitt, he's now in the No. 2 position to claim his first career statuette. He previously received five supporting Emmy bids for ER (1995-99).
The only person standing in Wyle's way, according to the Gold Derby predictions, is Severance star Adam Scott. Lest we forget, Scott also received a goat-load of kudos following the finale of his show, particularly for the scene in which the "innie" and "outie" versions of his character,...

With worries about the impact of a global tariffs war, recession fears and stock market volatility, where should media and entertainment investors put their money in such tumultuous times?
Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne recommends Netflix shares ahead of the streaming giant’s first-quarter earnings report after the stock market close on April 17.
“A more defensive lens to our media & entertainment coverage leaves us incrementally bullish on Netflix,” he wrote in a recent report. “We expect Netflix to demonstrate relative resilience in a weaker global macro. Momentum in its core subscription business combined with recent U.S. dollar weakness should de-risk ’25 estimates – even in a softer ad market.” Reiterating his “overweight” rating on the stock, he designated Netflix his new top pick in the sector, noting that he and his team “view the recent

Netflix seemingly ‘gives up’ great films and TV series. Well, when we say give up, we mean sell them for an extortionate amount of money. And we bet they’re happy they didn’t do that for the current number one series, Adolescence, which has remained #1 in the ‘Top 10 Programs’ in multiple countries, including the UK, and has recently claimed the title of the most-watched Netflix limited series. Not to mention the media attention it’s generating.

It should not come as any surprise that the United States creates the content that leads to the most Netflix views globally. The US produces by far the most movies and series, so even by default, the country would lead in views. But what ranks second in a new study by Ampere Analysis?

If I were to ask what Liam Neeson has been up to lately, pretty much everyone would be able to answer, "He's been starring in the same movie for the last 20 years." The gruff, beleaguered badass dad is basically a creation of the actor himself at this point. Ever since the French gave Neeson the star an action movie makeover with "Taken" back in 2008, the Irish actor has been suspended in a time loop that has him playing the same aggrieved dad who's really good at shooting people over and over again.
"Unknown," "Non-Stop," "Run All Night," "Honest Thief," "The Commuter," "Cold Pursuit" — the "Taken" clones just kept coming, which wasn't necessarily all that bad. Neeson had long since proven his acting skills, and while his new action persona wasn't necessarily going to produce any of the best Liam Neeson movies, it did give us a new genre of...

Last month, fans got their hands on the new book in the ‘Hunger Game’ series from author Suzanne Collins. The book served to show the events that transpired prior to ‘Hunger Games.’
For example, ‘Sunrise On the Reaping’ kicks off with the 50th edition of the games, whilst Katniss participated in the 74th edition. Just like in ‘A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,’ we’ll be meeting characters we originally got acquainted with in ‘Hunger Games.’

Korean content is crushing it on Netflix, with viewing hours second only to U.S. shows and accounting for a 8% of all global Netflix streams.
A new Ampere Analysis report reveals K-dramas and films represent 17% of the platform’s top 500 non-u.S. titles, with “Squid Game: Season 2” leading the charge at nearly 620 million streaming hours in late 2024.
In the second half of 2024, Korean content was streamed for 7.7 billion hours. Korean content consistently represents 8%-9% of viewing hours on Netflix, ahead of U.K. content at 7%-8%, and Japanese content at 4%-5% of viewing time, the report finds. This is despite hits from the U.K., such as “Black Doves” Season 1 and “The Gentlemen” Season 1, and the growing popularity of anime, which is a key driver of Japanese content viewing on Netflix.
“Squid Game” Season 2 topped Netflix’s global charts in H2 2024, with 619.9 million hours streamed. Its success continues to drive viewership for other Korean content.

Netflix’s most apt tagline, “See What’s Next,” couldn’t be more appropriate as the tech giant continues to foray into the vast world of gaming. Launched in 2021, Netflix gaming hasn’t quite managed equal footing in the market yet, but it’s not for lack of trying. Between launching indie hits like Twelve Minutes or Oxenfree, capturing bigger IP such as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, attempting original Aaa games, making developer acquisitions like Night School Studio, and crafting their own unique stories, it’s a wonder what will actually stick the landing for the entertainment behemoth.

A personal ranking of the most unforgettable series Netflix has ever dropped.
Netflix didn’t just change how we watch TV — it flipped the whole system on its head. Before streaming, networks called the shots, and shows came out once a week (with commercials). Then Netflix came along, dropped full seasons at once, and basically told Hollywood, “We’re doing it our way.” It worked. Suddenly, people were binge-watching, studios were scrambling, and everyone had to rethink what “TV” even meant. Now, Netflix is the big kid on the block, still setting the pace, still stacked with some of the best series of the last decade. They even brought commercials back (time is a circle)! So, here’s my list of the top 10 shows of all time on Netflix.
Top 10 all-time TV shows streaming on Netflix:
No. 10: ‘The Crown’
No. 9: ‘Dahmer – Monster’
No. 8: ‘BoJack Horseman’
No. 7: ‘Wednesday’
No.

It has taken a few years, but more legacy Hollywood studios’ streaming businesses have started turning annual profits, with the rest touting progress toward that goal.
Netflix, crowned on Wall Street as the undisputed king of streaming, grew its subscribers, revenue and profit in 2024. Meanwhile, among studios — which have been refocused on streaming profits after their initial bullseye on subscriber gains — Warner Bros. Discovery last year managed to multiply a small 2023 profit for the business that includes, among others, its streaming operations, while Disney swung to its first-ever full calendar-year streaming profit. And Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Paramount Global narrowed the losses in the divisions with their core streaming businesses with an eye on profitability ahead.
Boosting the bottom lines were such factors as more selective spending on original programming, price increases and a push of cheaper subscription tiers that include advertising. “Netflix spends more on direct-to-consumer (Dtc) content than any other company,...
