Solid story, horrible acting!!

Story was weird enough to keep my interest but the actor who played Kyle was just terrible!!! I mean a little bit of tweaking and this movie is probably a solid 7. Not a total waste of time if there's literally nothing else to watch.

30 minutes too long

Robbers show up at a house to hideout from the police, only to find they may have chosen the wrong place for safety. For the majority of the film, we see the visitors slowly unravel in their own way. They are panicked, with intermittent sessions of calm, triggered by one person telling the other to chill.

We have no idea what is going to happen or why the house was a bad idea for about 60%-75% of the film. While we see some weird things happen, only subtle clues are sprinkled throughout to help us understand what's happening or going to happen. Since nothing major is revealed until close to the end, we are left in suspense.

"Hideout" is somewhat of a slow burn, but not too slow that you'll lose interest. At the same time, they could've edited thirty minutes out and not lose anything significant. Kyle is the key to noticing something is awry (if you're observant).

The creepy sound audio at times was too loud. The setting was simple, and they didn't keep the entire film dark like so many horror films do.

It's an easy-to-watch film, nothing phenomenal or mind-blowing, but not terrible either. Save it for a day you want to watch a slower movie that's low in action with limited gore.

Slow paced and rather uneventful, but semi-watchable...

When I sat down to watch the 2021 horror mystery "Hideout", it was without knowing a single thing about this movie from writer and director Kris Roselli, aside from it being a horror movie. I have to say that I was initially drawn to the movie given its cover. And, of course, it being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen also helped to win me over.

Let me just say right away that "Hideout" is a slow paced horror movie without much of anything overly thrilling or exciting really happening. Sure, there were moments where the excitement was amped up, but it was just simply not enough to make up for the painfully slow narrative and lack of interesting contents to the storyline. So writer Kris Roselli wasn't really delivering a wholesome horror movie here.

The acting performances in the movie were adequate. They weren't exactly overly convincing some of the times, if not actually bordering on being dubious. And that sort of rendered the movie with a low budget and amateurish feel to it, for better or worse. I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list, and that is something I enjoy in movies. So at least that was working in favor of "Hideout".

Visually then "Hideout" was fair enough. There wasn't an abundance of special effects. But whatever effects were there came off as being passable and actually adequate enough to serve their purpose. Watchable, yes, but not innovative or bedazzling.

For a horror movie then "Hideout" was a walk in the park. There was nothing scary about this movie actually, unless you consider the insanely slow pacing of the story to be scary.

My rating of "Hideout" lands on a generous four out of ten stars. While "Hideout" was watchable, it is not a movie that I would recommend horror fans to rush out and watch. Nor is it a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.

Meh...

I am very easily amused and find entertainment in almost all movies. I also enjoy low budget indie horror/thrillers. The Hideout ain't it. Overacting and underacting at the same time. Not even sure how to explain that. A slow, meandering, somewhat nonsensical story. The idea is good. Nothing new or shocking but they just didn't pull it off. I gave it a 2 for the ok "twist" ending (which I don't think was really a twist but I think they meant it to be) and the actress who played Sarah. I think she's the only one who knew what she was doing. There are pieces there but they just don't put them together. Did I mention how awful the acting was?

Poorly acted, edited, and written

There were so many continuity errors in the writing, editing, acting, etc. It's not even worth expanding on this. It's just so very bad. Clearly this was a first movie made by friends who wanted to try out everything they could all in one picture. The camera angles alone made it seem like they were taking a film class at the same time and each day learned a new technique they tried exploring. There isn't a single redeemable thing I can say about the movie so instead I'll leave you with this- if you are going to force yourself to sit through this travesty, pretend it is a recipe for lemonade on one of those cites that give you the cook's life story before getting to the actual recipe. As soon as the old woman starts talking about lemonade- the rest is that story.

Acting was awful!

Not a bad story, but the acting was laughable. Specifically the guy with long hair and the balding guy. They were just trying too hard and it was really bad! Those two have no acting talent, shocking that they got this far. The rest of the actors were not great, but not nearly as bad as those 2. Felt like a high school play.

It is a slow burn type and somewhat original it was not predictable, which was refreshing. Most horror movies are so cliche', this was better. If they had real actors, it would be a really good movie! I would recommend watching it just for the funny overacting parts from those two.

Not bad plot, terrible acting.

Not bad plot, terrible acting. You can tell it's low budget & has an indie feel to it. But SMH, the actor that plays Kyle was more funny to watch then serious!

Good kill scenes though!!!

Not the best, but not terrible

I write this being purely objective. Also, rating it for what it is, and Indie film on a budget.

The filmography and perspective created by the director were spot on. It was very easy to see his intent for the film. The acting wasn't the best, but also not terrible. The length of the film could have been a bit shorter. I believe getting the story into a tidy 90-100 minutes would have been achievable without compromising the integrity of the film.

As an entry level film, it was good and the actors/actress's as well as the director will only improve from here! Hope to see more from Kris in the future.

Had my attention!

I was curious about the mix of reviews and watched the movie. Someone said it was more suspense, and I agree. It held my interest. I have a lot more patience for slower films and shows since COVID. But it was also mixed with great moments and really good creepy effects. Great ending. All in all, not a 10 but certainly not a 1!

Awesome!!!!

Rented this on amazon last night. As far as low budget independent films go, I was EXTREMELY impressed. Really creepy and tense slow burn that reminded me of The Thing mixed with Reservoir Dogs for the first half and then the second half gets absolutely insane!!! Definitely worth a watch. My wife and I enjoyed it.

Alright

Not the best movie, but interesting enough to keep one watching til the end. Not a 10, but nothing below a 3 either.

It serves to waste some time, not that different from big budget movies.

I've Seen Better & I've Seen FAR Worse

So, after a botched robbery, a gang find shelter and medical aid at an unassuming home. Not all is as it seems in the quaint home.

As I said I've seen better and I've seen far worse. I give this 3.5 stars.

The story is a little different but it takes too long for it to get to the point. There were some aspects of the story that just didn't have to be part of the film. The acting is cringy at best and the dialogue could use work.

The best part of the film, in my opinion, was the effort to create decent horror scenes. Not all of them were winners mind you, but someone really put their heart into this aspect of the film and I'm gonna give them credit for it.

It's not something I'll watch again but I can recommend it for indy film enthusiasts. It was clearly a passion project. However, if you are a lightweight and have no tolerance for imperfection, you should probably skip it.

A Very forgettable film HIDEOUT

The movie is the least cinematic film I have ever watched. The lighting was so so akward. Acting was beyond impossible to understand. The film was edited so poorly and with no continuity.

The remote farmhouse location lack luster. The pause in delivery of dialogue was so inferior. Chris Wolfe's performance was with a lack of emotion and stitled. I wanted to enjoy this film but the story was not happening. So many horror films try to be orginal and this film was so trite and predictbale. I wish I could get back the time I spent watching this film. HIDEOUT I would hide from... It look so poorly put together.

Oh dear

The acting was not the worst! The practical effects, when shown, are very good (but very far and very in-between). How filmmakers can watch, rewatch and still think that at 1 hour 50 minutes, their film does not need any editing is beyond me. Top directors will keep it to 90 minutes. This badly needs 30/40 removing, then it may be watchable. The ending is just the usual ending of 90% of horrors.

Strange

This movie could've been done so much better. It took forever to get clarity of what was going on. The acting was subpar. I watched til the end to see if things would change much but it didn't change much. Wasted time.

Goes on too much

Some really poor acting in this one .Started off pretty much ok .Then it starts to get ridiculous and tedious .Will keep you hooked ,only to see the outcome .Not because you are watching a classic .

Much better then I expected

I'm not sure why the rating is so low as this was quite good. Acting was very good,I wasn't expecting this level from the actors in a low budget horror. The director...oh boy....it isn't very often we see a new director with this talent, even though the actors impressed me it's the director that really shines for me. Look forward to seeing another project from Kris Roselli.

Not bad at all

It held me to the end and that's more than I can say for a lot of horror pics these days. Sure, the plot is familiar, I've watched a couple over the years with almost exactly the same setup, but the actors give it their all, the direction is crisp and efficient and on the whole it's an enjoyable watch. In short, to paraphrase Pope, 'May this put money in your purse For I assure you I've seen worse'.
