A group of women solve their problems over their weekly card games.
Thirty-nine years have passed since this pilot aired, and I still remember watching it. "Wives" was fresh and funny and gave women a chance to really shine without having to play up to a dominating male character.
After all these years, I still remember Penny Marshall's trademark deadpan delivery and how she made me laugh and laugh and laugh. In one exchange of dialogue, another character says that she needs to "go to the toi-toi". Penny speaks up and says, "I can't believe it. You're 34 years old and you're still calling the bathroom the toi-toi."
I wish this could be issued on DVD either by itself, or as a special feature on another of Penny's movies. I would love to get reacquainted with this gem.
