Misinformation
At minute 48:12, the Santa Susana Field Laboratory is introduced. A dialogue on the environmental impact of this facility is touched upon. At minute 49:09, viewers are told about "The Site" where a nuclear meltdown occurred. I believe the context in which this meltdown is communicated leads the viewer to believe it happened at or near the Santa Susana Field Laboratory. The only indication to the contrary is an old video real of Downtown Idaho Falls, Idaho. My assertion, again, is that most viewers will conclude that this town is in Southern California. This propagates the misinformation about the facts of this historic event by suggesting that it took place at a location other than EBR-1, located near Atomic City in Southeast Idaho. I cannot help but wonder if this was done intentionally to bring more attention to the dangers of nuclear energy. The occurrence and subsequent cover-up of a nuclear meltdown near Los Angeles are much more sensational than the actual occurrence and cover-up of a meltdown in a largely unknown desert outside of an equally unknown American city. As an Idahoan and avid viewer of public television, I am calling into question the journalistic integrity of this portion of the Blue Sky Metropolis series.
