Why was this even made? The Narrator was really irritating and the mock 70's film was a poor attempt at comedy. don't waste your time
Was excited for this to come out and I'm usually a big fan of their stuff but the set up/filming on this one was different.
The fake film they made that they claimed was an unreleased movie from 1975 was a total misstep. The acting was terrible and it really took away from the documentary side of the movie. Hopefully they don't decided to do this again in future films. Would highly recommend watching The Bray Road Beast instead.
A bad attempt at a B-rate mockumentary. This film tries so had to be a culty monster movie that it sinks it's self. The acting is horrible, the directing and editing is just as bad, and even the true story becomes a bore as you watch the narrator play tough guy investigator between clips. Even as a monster movie and Bigfoot fan, this was really hard to get through.
"Small Town Monsters" is a great documentary series that freshly investigates popular and some obscure cryptid cases, focusing more on the people and folklore than on trying to prove or disprove the stories.
This edition, however, is not a great place to start. The crew makes it more of a mockumentary-style in the vein of MonsterQuest, with the usual narrator playing the part of the host of "Blackburn's Cryptid Casefiles", who claims to have tracked down a copy of a a cheesy 70s drive-in movie based on the Momo monster of Missouri (think Missourian Boggy Creek). Clips of the nonexistent film are interpolated with "Blackburn"'s host segments and genuine documentary coverage of the town and its people, who discuss the events. These last parts are more in line with what fans of the series would expect.
Overall a fun watch, but definitely different

- TriviaBased on supposedly actual events. In 1972, the town of Louisiana, Missouri was home to many alleged sightings of a large, Bigfoot-like creature. The story goes that two young boys and their sister first spotted the 7-foot-tall, hairy beast on the edge of the woods just outside of town. Emanating a foul odor, the creature was carrying a dead dog, according to the folklore. Sightings of the Missouri Monster, or "Momo," exploded that year, and the town experienced monster fever. At one point, a twenty-person posse was put together to kill the beast, but the creature was never found.
