One of Hollywood’s biggest cheerleaders has been sidelined at this year’s Oscars. Jamie Lee Curtis was snubbed for her performance in The Last Showgirl despite recent Best Supporting Actress nominations at both the SAG Awards and BAFTAs. In 2023, she won this category for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Gia Coppola‘s The Last Showgirl stars Pamela Anderson as Shelly Gardner, a 57-year-old Las Vegas showgirl who has performed for three decades in Le Razzle Dazzle. Curtis plays Shelly’s older best friend, Annette, a cocktail waitress who was ousted from the show years prior. Her brief, but impactful performance had launched Curtis into fifth place in our Best Supporting Actress Oscar odds heading into nominations morning.
Curtis, 66, has been vocal about her career resurgence in recent years. In addition to her Oscar win in 2023, the actress took home her first Emmy last year for playing...

Production is underway on the AI thriller Serena, and Deadline reports that a sinister chatbot in the story is being played by Andi Matichak, who is best known for playing the role of Allyson Nelson, the granddaughter of Laurie Strode, in the recent trilogy of Halloween sequels from Blumhouse Productions and director David Gordon Green.
Directed by Rob Alicea, who is making his feature debut, from a script written by Jonathan Benecke and P.T. Hylton, Serena has the following synopsis: Desperate to launch her company into the future with resounding success, a CEO commissions tech engineer Holly to build her an AI model. However, before being implemented it must be tested. Down-on-his-luck and funds, former rock star, Chris Sadowsky, is asked to be one of the testers — with devastating repercussions. A simple tool, a chatbot who calls herself ‘Serena’ (Matichak) proves to be a soothingly sinister weapon of destruction, all...

Both characters have had stories told through comics and films for decades, with Titan taking over comic and book publishing in 2023.
ScreenRant is happy to share a first look at Titan Books’ upcoming titles. 2025 and 2026 will be good years for the Robert E. After starting off his career by directing independent dramas like George Washington and All the Real Girls, David Gordon Green shifted over to making stoner comedies like Pineapple Express and Your Highness for a while, then made his horror debut by taking the helm of a full trilogy of Halloween sequels: the 2018 Halloween, Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. That trilogy turned out to be rather divisive – some fans love what Green did with them, others were disappointed with how the story played out. Then he was planning to direct a trilogy of sequels to The Exorcist… but when The Exorcist: Believer was poorly received, he stepped away from that project. He’s currently doing the press rounds for his latest film, the family holiday comedy Nutcrackers, and during an interview with MovieWeb he shared advice and encouragement for directors who have the chance to work on established franchises like he...

A major Modern Family role was turned down by a Halloween franchise star. The mockumentary-style comedy was a network television hit that aired on ABC for 11 seasons and 250 episodes from 2009-2020. Acclaim for Modern Family's comedy, acting, and writing, along with the generally positive audience reception surrounding the show led to it winning an impressive 22 Emmy Awards, five of which were for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Modern Family's cast included Sofía Vergara, Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Eric Stonestreet. Burrell and Stonestreet each won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, while Bowen won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Vergara, O'Neill, and Ferguson also received multiple Emmy Award nominations, with the series consistently gaining recognition for its talented cast.

After directing the Halloween sequel trilogy and an Exorcist reboot, David Gordon Green is back in the comedy genre with Nutcrackers — but it hasn’t done any better on Rotten Tomatoes than his horror films. Green has had a very interesting genre-hopping career trajectory. He first broke out in independent cinema with acclaimed dramas like George Washington, All the Real Girls, and Snow Angels. Then, he pivoted to making studio comedies with the likes of Pineapple Express, The Sitter, and Your Highness. Then, he pivoted to horror films with revivals of some of the genre’s biggest franchises.
Now, he’s firmly back in comedy territory with his new Christmas movie Nutcrackers, which is now streaming on Hulu. Ben Stiller leads the cast of Nutcrackers as a childless workaholic who has to relocate to rural Ohio to take care of his recently orphaned nephews. Sometimes Tim Waggoner can make up scenes, and sometimes he can’t.
Take his work on Terrifier 2, a novelization of the popular 2022 killer-clown slasher movie. The studio wanted a 100,000-word prose adaptation of a film that was under two and a half hours, necessitating some creative license from the author. “If Art the Clown is running around killing people, I can just have him kill some more people,” says Waggoner of that book, which published this past October. “At one point in the movie, he’s driving a van, so I’m like, ‘Oh, where’d he get his van?’ So I wrote a scene where he got the van.”
But on Waggoner’s first published works for A24 — book adaptations of the X trilogy — the mandate was different: Don’t complicate writer-director Ti West’s creative vision. And so in X (published Sept. 24), Pearl (Nov. 19) and the upcoming...

Nutcrackers marks the return of Ben Stiller in a leading role. He plays Mike, who heads to the heart of Ohio to care for his four rambunctious nephews in the aftermath of his sister and her husband passing away in a tragic car accident. Though initially hesitant, Mike realizes they may be the family he's always needed.
Director David Gordon Green was inspired by real-life brothers - Homer Janson, Ulysses Janson, Arlo Janson, and Atlas Janson - and actually filmed on their family farm. This is the first acting role for all four boys. Green is well known in the horror world for movies like Halloween Kills (2021) and Halloween (2018), but is no stranger to comedy either, as he directs and produces The Righteous Gemstones.

Jamie Lee Curtis, who played final girl Laurie Strode in the Halloween series, teased a possible return to the horror franchise. After starring in the original Halloween movie in 1978, Curtis has gone on to appear in six more Halloween films. The most recent installment, 2022's Halloween Ends, served as a conclusion to David Gordon Green's reboot trilogy which began in 2018. However, over its almost 50-year history, the Halloween franchise has ended and then started again in a new form multiple times, so it wouldn't be surprising for another Halloween movie to be released sooner rather than later.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Curtis revealed she may be open to returning to the role. This comes as a surprise, as in the build-up to Halloween Ends, Curtis claimed it would be her last time playing Laurie Strode. Curtis teases another potential return to the Halloween franchise just two years...

Halloweens villain Michael Myers has become a cinematic icon and a favorite among horror fans, and while many are aware that Michael Myers was originally named The Shape, they might not know why. The Halloween franchise has seen many ups and downs with multiple retcons, remakes, and reboots of the series. Though not all Halloween films have been successful, they have certainly helped maintain the popularity and reputation of Michael Myers, who is now part of pop culture, being referred to and parodied on multiple occasions in different films and TV shows from all genres.

For a lot of horror fans, October is their favorite month of the year, giving us 31 full days to watch even more horror movies than we do throughout the rest of the year, including films that are set on the holiday that ends the month: Halloween. Of course, the Halloween-set horror movies that get the most views are the slasher movies that share their name with the holiday. So with fresh viewings of every Halloween movie taken in, we have assembled a list: Halloween Movies Ranked, from worst to best. Check it out:

What is the legacy of David Gordon Green's "Halloween" reboot trilogy? When the first film, "Halloween," arrived in 2018, fans and even critics were impressed — a dormant franchise was alive again! But then Green would go on to make two more movies, both of which were met with a much more lukewarm reception. The sequel "Halloween Kills" had plenty of gore, but it was also a bit of a mess and not nearly as praised as the 2018 movie. Then came "Halloween Ends." Marketed as the definitive conclusion to the story of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, "Halloween Ends" was drubbed by both critics and loyal fans. As a result, the general consensus surrounding Green's trilogy these days seems to be negative. But what if I told you that "Halloween Ends" is ... good, actually? In fact, it might even be great. And you don't have to take my word for it! Stephen King,...

Back in 2018, Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green had great success rebooting the long-running "Halloween" film franchise with a movie frustratingly just called "Halloween." The 2018 "Halloween" ignored every other sequel to come after John Carpenter's 1978 original, taking place in a world where Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was not the sister of Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney), and where Michael had been languishing in a mental institution for 40 years. That film spawned two sequels in its own miniature continuity, "Halloween Kills" in 2021 and "Halloween Ends" in 2022.
Blumhouse and Green were clearly hoping that lightning could strike twice, as Jason Blum infamously purchased the rights to "The Exorcist" in 2021 for $400 million. The plan was for Green to direct another reboot trilogy that also ignored all the extant sequels to date, catching up with the characters from the first film decades later. Sadly, the first film in this proposed trilogy, called "The Exorcist: Believer,...

The “Halloween” movie series has had quite a journey, spanning over four decades and presenting multiple timelines that can leave even the most devoted fans scratching their heads. With the release of each film, Michael Myers has become a horror icon, and Jamie Lee Curtis’ portrayal of Laurie Strode has cemented her as a symbol of survival and strength. Whether you’re new to the series or a long-time fan, knowing the correct order to watch them is essential to fully appreciate the intricate (and sometimes confusing) narrative threads. When John Carpenter made the original “Halloween” in 1978, it was just another horror movie in a long line of horror movies. But the blockbuster success of this low-budget movie, about a masked killer murdering babysitters, made “Halloween” a cultural institution. The film spawned legions of imitators and codified the slasher genre as we still know it. And yet the official “Halloween” franchise has often struggled to meet the standard of the movie that inspired the craze. Let’s look back at all of these classic (and not so classic) horror movies, and see how they stack up.

Nicholas Pryor, whose nearly seven-decade acting career included hundreds of episodes of soap operas, playing Tom Cruise’s dad in Risky Business and Kathleen Robertson’s dad on Beverly Hills, 90210, died October 7. He was 89.
Fellow actor Jon Lindstrom announced the news on social media, saying in part: “Nick was an Actor’s actor, and an exceptional friend. … He was a mentor, a sounding board, a trusted confidant, and even a father-figure beyond, yes, playing my own father on #Gh and #PortCharles.” See his full post below.
Pryor racked up nearly 175 screen credits and half-dozen more on Broadway. After getting his screen start guesting on such 1950s and early ’60s TV series as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Doctors, he played Tom Baxter in more than 75 episodes of the NBC daytime drama Another World. That led to a starring role on The Nurses, a 1965-67 continuation of CBS’ The Nurses, which...

If you loved the grime and gore of director Damien Leone’s hit slasher film Terrifier 2, today you can get your hands on the film’s official novelization (grab your copy on Amazon), courtesy of Titan Books and Bloody Disgusting.
In this gruesome novelization of the hit horror film, from Tim Waggoner, author of the Halloween Kills and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter novelizations, the nightmarish Art the Clown returns from the dead to continue his murderous and mad spree in the sleepy town of Miles County, one year after they survived the events of Terrifier.
Little do they know the nightmare is about to begin anew…
Resurrected by a sinister entity, Art is back with an appetite for murder and mayhem—setting his sights on the recently bereaved teenager Sienna and her younger brother Jonathan. The streets are about to run with blood, and Sienna must somehow survive...

David Gordon Greens 2018 reboot of the Halloween franchise which kickstarted Michael Myers most polarizing run in the series is now available to stream on Netflix. 2018s Halloween takes place 40 years after John Carpenters groundbreaking 1978 original and ignores every other sequel that came in between. It catches up with a post-traumatic Laurie Strode, whos now a mother and grandmother and has been nervously awaiting Michaels return for four decades. While being transferred to a maximum-security prison, Michael escapes and heads back to Haddonfield for another gruesome killing spree on Halloween night.
When it arrived in theaters in 2018, the Halloween reboot was praised as the best Halloween movie since Carpenters original. Jamie Lee Curtis performance was widely acclaimed and Greens direction of the tone and atmosphere was similarly lauded. Plus, it became a massive box-office success. But looking back on it now, 2018s Halloween is best remembered as the beginning of the...

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie has confirmed its first legacy character, and now I really need it to avoid a legacy sequel tradition. The horror genre continues to revive some of its most popular sagas and franchises through legacy sequels, and among them is I Know What You Did Last Summer. Loosely based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, I Know What You Did Last Summer capitalized on the revival of the slasher genre in the 1990s and introduced the audience to a group of friends haunted by a mysterious killer.
Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr), Barry (Ryan Phillippe), and Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) ran over a man and dumped his body in the water, but he was still alive. A year later, a killer in a raincoat wielding a hook targeted the group as he knew their secret,...

Legendary author Stephen King wasn’t yet a legendary author when he stayed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado back in 1974 – but that stay helped him on his way to legendary status, because it inspired him to write the novel The Shining. Fifty years later, Blumhouse Productions and the Peacock streaming service have announced that they’re teaming up to take over the Lodge at the Stanley hotel for a weekend event called the Overnightmare, which is scheduled to take place from Friday, October 18th through Sunday, October 20th. For that weekend, rooms will be themed to one of four Blumhouse films – Insidious, The Purge, Happy Death Day, and Freaky.
A press release invites genre fans to “Step (and sleep) inside the worlds of Blumhouse’s Insidious, The Purge, Freaky and Happy Death Day at Peacock and Blumhouse’s “Overnightmare,” a one-weekend-only experience at the iconic Stanley Hotel...

Although Kyle Richards’ personal life has been the center of attraction for years, it’d be foul to undermine the actress’ unrelenting approach to acting. After a prolonged absence from the realm of showbiz for almost half a decade, Kyle Richards returned to reprise the role of Lindsey, one of the kids from the first Halloween release, in Halloween Kills.

If you're a horror fan, you're familiar with Blumhouse Productions (cited as Blumhouse from here out). Even if you're not a horror fan, you've probably watched a Blumhouse film without knowing it ("Whiplash?" "Jem and the Holograms?" "Tooth Fairy?"). Jason Blum's nightmare factory is synonymous with today's mainstream horror pillars, securing the rights to everything from "Halloween" to "The Exorcist" and beyond. Indeed, it's impossible to banter about our contemporary horror era without acknowledging how prevalent and prodigious Blumhouse has become — so why does it feel like it's ghosting us this year?
Blumhouse decimated last year's horror movie market. In 2023, Blum's juggernaut scared up nearly $800 million worldwide in box office totals. Emma Tammi's video game adaptation "Five Nights at Freddy's" boasted a high score of $297 million on a $20 million budget — one of nine films released by Blumhouse. Now, there's no metric for reporting for streaming titles like...

Being a movie star 24×7 may be glamorous, but it is not an easy job. For actors, sacrificing their personal lives for the sake of a professional one comes with the territory. However, the line between right and wrong starts getting blurry when the job begins to cost them emotionally. Jamie Lee Curtis realized as much but felt too powerless to make real changes in her life… that is until she found a specific brand of yogurt.

For decades, the famous actress has continued to contribute to the screen and make her mark in the industry. But the price of success was too high to bear at times and with each film on her roster, the Halloween star felt pushed farther away from her family. Jamie Lee Curtis finally allows herself to catch a break and center herself after 40+ years in Hollywood.

After successfully reviving one legendary horror franchise and not quite managing to relaunch another, David Gordon Green needed a “bit of a palate cleanser.”
Since Halloween, his 2018 reboot of the John Carpenter slasher pic, Green has become a bit of a go-to-guy for mid-budget horror masters Blumhouse, delivering a full trilogy of new Halloweens — with Halloween Kills in 2021 and Halloween Ends in 2022 — as well as last year’s The Exorcist: Believer, an unsuccessful attempt to bring back the spinning-head world of demonic possession created by William Friedkin in his 1973 classic.
But after six years of screams and jump scares, “it felt like a time to reset,” Green says. “After doing a run of horror movies, I felt like switching gears.”
What Green did next was Nutcrackers, a family-friendly comedy starring Ben Stiller as Mike, an uptight workaholic who is forced to take over guardianship of his rambunctious, newly orphaned nephews.

One key detail from Jurassic World Rebirth makes me want a crossover with the Halloween franchise. The upcoming movie, which stars Scarlett Johansson and is being directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay by David Koepp, will be the seventh installment in the long-running Jurassic Park franchise. The iconic series of dinosaurs-run-amok blockbusters kicked off with the 1993 Steven Spielberg movie, adapting the Michael Crichton novel of the same name, and by the time of writing the three Park movies and three World movies have cumulatively grossed more than $6 billion, becoming the eleventh highest-grossing movie franchise of all time.
The Halloween movies, on the other hand, kicked off even earlier, beginning with John Carpenter's original slasher classic in 1978. At the time of writing, there are now 13 theatrical installments in the horror franchise in a multitude of continuities, though the majority of them focus on the exploits of notorious serial killer Michael Myers,...

Quentin Tarantino's concept for a Halloween sequel involved Michael Myers on a road trip killing people. While Tarantino's exact idea was never executed, echoes of it can be found in the plot for Halloween Ends. Halloween Ends featured the divisive subplot of Corey Cunningham teaming up with Michael Myers, contradicting the established "Shape" character.
Quentin Tarantino was once on deck to write the sixth movie in the Halloween horror franchise, and while that never came to be, his core concept resurfaced in the last chapter of the reboot trilogy, Halloween Ends. The Halloween franchise has gone through multiple iterations (and an upcoming Halloween TV show) since the original, with different lines of continuity. While Rob Zombie's Halloween reboot from the late 2000s stands on its own, all other sequels and reboots can be traced back to Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981).
