I understand not everyone may have enjoyed the MLP movie, but for those who did this movie is for you. Is a welcome change To be able to see this style of animation again. After watching it however you will notice it will make you think of watching the Wizard of Oz in reverse... you'll understand that after you watch it, lol.

Rainbow Roadtrip is a Sweet Ride of a Special

Hey guys, now I'm going to review this special from MLP FIM. I'm going to review the special "Rainbow Roadtrip." The plot is that the mane 6 are traveling to a town called "Hope Hollow." They expect colour there. But instead everything is gray. I really like this special, and here are my reasons.
The animation looks very good for a special. Smooth and colourful. It was animated by the same studio that made the movie. Let's move on to the story. The first 30 minutes were slow. But we get to learn about the town and its orgins. The rest is fantastic. With how the mane 6 help the citizens prepare the Rainbow Roadtrip.
Speaking of the characters. There all likable. The main characters act like themselves. But the supporting characters are the best part. Like the mayor "Sunny Skies" wants to help his town. But his insecurities get the better of him. Some of the other characters are the Barrel twins who are Rainbow Dash fans. The Hoofingtons an old couple. Petunia Petals, Sunny Skies' love interest.
The songs are good. Like "The End of The Rainbow." Most of the jokes were good. Like the Rainbow Trout joke. Finally the conclusion, that the townsponies needed to feel joy to bring the colour back. Was handled very well.
So in conclusion this is a sweet ride of a special. I think its an improvement over the movie. Which I thought was okay. The only downsides are that its kind of too slow, and It might get too immature from how the characters were portrayed earlier. But if you want to watch something calm and relaxing. This is great too watch. I would give it an 8/10.

Decent, but underwhelming for FiM

This special is certainly in the FiM feeling, but a lot of the obvious filler and lack of tension in the narrative reminds one of earlier generations of MLP, making this feel more like something to be expected from very early in the series' run rather than so late.
It would've been a lot better if it was just 10 minutes shorter, as a lot of the problem is that things noticibly drag in the later middle section when it's pretty obvious what the problem is, and the plot sort of runs out of material.

I do love the MLP movie, but this special seems to be a bit better. For starters, the film's animation makes a comeback here. Also, the Mane Six are written better than in the movie. ESPECIALLY Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash. Plus, AJ and Fluttershy get to do stuff, a common complaint I've seen from most bronies about the MLP movie from 2017. Granted, there wasn't any villain in the special and the pacing can seem a bit slow at first, but I think this works in the special's favor. Really, you can have both; the MLP Movie if you want some action, and Rainbow Roadtrip if you're looking for a slow, calm trip. Think of it this way; the MLP movie is a log flume ride, and Rainbow Roadtrip is a lazy river. Both are fun in their own way, you just gotta know that one is the more exciting one while the other lets you take a breather. If you want a good time without everything going too crazy, I'd recommend you'd check out Rainbow Roadtrip.

This is a 60 minute "My Little Pony" special, so it's not a movie. It is however animated in the same way as the movie. It seems like it could be considered a second movie, even if it's technically not. I thought this was tons of fun because it didn't have a villain. There was a still a problem of course. The synopsis is that Rainbow Dash and her friends are invited to the Rainbow Festival at a town called Hope Hollow.
They quickly find out there's no color! The mayor is named Sunny Skies and he says that there was an accident at their last festival that got rid of all the color. Eventually, we find out that isn't true. There's also a mare named Petunia Petals, the first pony we see there. I said to myself that I would give this a perfect score if they got together. You can guess what happened next.
This has a lot of depth, because it goes into so much detail about friendship. As noted by the Nostalgia Critic, that's what makes this show so good. I love how it individually focuses on how the characters and how they each contribute. It's what makes these characters so wonderful. Of course, it's sad seeing this show finally end. We had a great go with it. ****

I think it was better than I was expecting, considering it's a post-movie special. It's cute, and incorporated the character designs they used in the movie. I'd even argue this has a better plot than the movie.
All that said, it's better than the later FiM seasons too, which i think you can credit to a better crew working on it.

...Which is to say, it's painfully average. The animation is alright (though very different to the show), the two songs are okay, the plot is predictable but passable... you get the picture. It'll entertain small kids, but besides a few good jokes, I doubt it'll have the multi-generational appeal the show has. 5/10

Whereas Pony Life is dull, unfunny, and tries (and fails) to be in with the kids, this TV special just tells us a simple, but cute and well animated story.
Stylistically different from Friendship is Magic, but keeps the heart of the original show alive. THIS is how you rebrand. Too bad they chose to go a different direction.

If this is indicative of the future of the franchise, the folks over at Boulder will handle it fine. Exceptionally animated, voice acted, written, I loved this special. Much better than what DHX and the Hasbro writers have forced out the past few seasons. Felt like Lauren Faust's MLP again.
Cheap, Boring and Mind-numbingly Simplistic

This was just so bland and boring, it's so slow and mind-numbingly simple. The 2 songs in this were just utter garbage, I can't believe Daniel Ingram's name is attached to them. The "movie style" animation feels so out of place in this and is ultimately uncanny with the backgrounds being much more 2D. The animation is also super cheap feeling, with all the background ponies being recolours of super recognisable characters, you got A blue Big Mac walking around with 100 recoloured Lyras' and Bon-Bons'. This could have easily been just a standard episode it didn't need to drag on for an entire hour and the pacing is just so unbelievably slow making it feel like 2 hours. Some of the voice acting is a bit off as well like it was spliced together from different takes and it's really distracting.
If you want to watch it, I'd say just watch it but you'd be way better off spending an hour watching any three FIM episodes.

No epic like the movie, but a slice of life special in 90 minutes if you watch the Berrytube version with ads that is just as fun as the show. If you had not watched the leaked 3 part S9 ending beware of the spoilers on Discovery Family and Derpibooru.
