Storyline

While detective Lindsay Boxer is waiting near her parked car to meet with an investigative reporter, the reporter falls to her death onto Lindsay's car. Medical Examiner Claire Washburn discovers that the woman was shot before being thrown off the building, and she and Lindsay team up with DA Jill Bernhardt to unravel the mystery. When Lindsay visits the newspaper the dead woman worked at she meets Cindy Thomas, a reporter who manages to find notebooks written in code and helps decipher them. When their first main suspect (a man who'd been stalking the dead woman) is cleared, the focus shifts to an affair the reporter was having with a doctor's husband. Meanwhile, Lindsay is upset when her older partner Warren is passed over for a promotion, one that goes to her ex-husband Tom. Written by Ron Kerrigan <mvg@whidbey.com>

Claire Washburn: But Tom didn't leave you because you cared about your job. He left because it was all you cared about.
Lindsay Boxer: [Lindsay pauses as she looks at Claire.] Why are we friends?
Claire Washburn: Because I always tell you the truth. Just like I did when I warned you, that whole thing with the Kiss-Me-Not ...
