Fox, CBS share spotlight with 'Men,' 'Kitchen'

NEW YORK -- Fox and CBS split a summer Monday of television, thanks to a Two and a Half Men repeat and another strong Hell's Kitchen.

"Men" was the night's top show in viewership with 9.1 million viewers and a 2.7 rating/8 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. It was up against Hell's Kitchen (8.6 million, 4.0/11), which was the night's top show in adults 18-49.

Not doing as well was ABC's two-hour Six Degrees of Martina McBride (4.2 million, 1.3/4), which came in fourth in the demographic between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. NBC's Age of Love (5.4 million, 2.1/6) fell in adults 18-49 week to week but held steady in viewership. Everything at 8 p.m. was a repeat and at 10 p.m. a repeat CSI: Miami (8.8 million, 2.5/7) won in viewership and adults 18-49.

Monday averages: CBS (7.5 million, 2.2/7); Fox (6.4 million, 2.9/9); NBC (5.2 million, 1.8/6); ABC (4.7 million, 1.6/5); and the CW (1.8 million, 0.7/2).

Beckham special spices up NBC on Mon.

Despite its critical drubbing, Victoria Beckham's NBC special pulled in OK numbers Monday night.

Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, which was originally supposed to be a six-episode series but was whittled down into a one-hour special, averaged 4.9 million viewers and a 2.2 rating/7 share in the adults 18-49 demo, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. That was good enough to give the special the demo win in its 8 p.m. slot. A repeat of ABC's Wife Swap (5.3 million, 2.0/6) took the hour in total viewers.

At 9 p.m., a new episode of Fox's Hell's Kitchen (8.2 million, 4.0/11) posted its second-highest demo and viewers numbers so far this season. The show easily won the hour -- and the night -- in both metrics.

A new episode of NBC's Age of Love (4.5 million, 1.8/5) posted its lowest demo rating in its five weeks on the air, though it did grow from a 1.7/5 in its first half-hour to a 1.9/5 in its second.

NBC is king with princes' 'Dateline' appearance

NEW YORK -- NBC won Monday night's primetime, highlighted by Dateline NBC and its exclusive interview with Princes William and Prince Harry.

Dateline was the night's top program with 12.2 million viewers and a 4.1 rating/12 share in adults 18-49, according to preliminary estimates released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. That not only was the top show at 10 p.m. but also all night.

It was also the best ratings for Dateline since Jan. 4, 2005, when the show interviewed Amber Frey.

NBC won two of three hours in primetime, winning with Deal or No Deal (11.9 million, 3.1/10) against mostly repeats at 8 p.m. But the premiere of Age of Love (6.9 million, 2.4/7) came in third in the hour against Fox's established Hell's Kitchen (7.3 million, 3.4/9) as well as CBS repeats Two and a Half Men (9.2 million, 2.7/8) and How I Met Your Mother (7.5 million, 2.4/6).

Monday averages: NBC (10.4 million, 3.2/9); CBS (7.2 million, 2.2/7); Fox (5.4 million, 2.5/8); ABC (4.6 million, 1.8/5); and the CW (1.7 million, 0.7/2).
