DuckTales (TV Series)
The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee! (2019)
Trivia
First appearance of Gandra Dee in the DuckTales (2017), who was a character originally created for the original DuckTales (1987). In the original series, Gandra Dee was portrayed as Fenton Crackshell's love interest and eventual girlfriend, which was intended as a parody of the superhero romance theme such as with Superman and Lois Lane. Also in the original series she was a receptionist instead of a scientist.
The weather-based villain Gizmoduck fights in the first scene bears a striking resemblance to Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, a villain from the animated Disney Show Phineas and Ferb (2007).
Mark Beaks turning into "Mega Beaks" is highly reminiscent of the Incredible Hulk. Beaks using stolen Gyro-Tech and nanites to become his alter ego could also be a reference to DC Villain Bane, who uses Venom to increase his superhuman strength for fighting Batman.
In the background of the shot when Gandra introduces herself to Fenton, a woman slightly resembling Winnie the Pooh can be seen, wearing a similar red shirt and having feathers the same colour of that character.
Much like with Webby and Mrs. Beakley, Gandra Dee's personality was also changed in the reboot compared to the original DuckTales (1987) to remove the gender stereotypes and create a more down to earth female character, as Gandra Dee was portrayed as a very feminine character in the original series. Also like Fenton and his mother, her feathers were changed from white to brown in the DuckTales (2017) Reboot and her hair color was changed from a blond to a brunette.
Fenton's "new element," Fentonium, is very similar to the titular character of the live action Disney film Flubber (1997).
One of the TV Broadcasts provide a message saying "Once again the day is Saved, thanks to Gizmoduck". This is a reference to the closing monologue to each episode of the Cartoon Network series The Powerpuff Girls (1998), and the News Anchor to use that line was even voiced by that show's interim narrator Tom Kenny.
The romantic dinner that Huey and Webby prepare for Fenton and Gandra is based off the famous spaghetti and meatballs scene in the animated Disney film Lady and the Tramp (1955).
In his alter ego, Mega Beaks climbs to the top of Waddle Tower with Huey and Webby in one hand done to impress his followers, paying homage to an infamous scene from King Kong (1933) and it's reboots.
Fenton's list of "People who know I'm Gizmoduck" consists of: Gyro, Launchpad, Dewey, Huey , Mark) Beaks, Scrooge, The mailman, The dry cleaner, That barista at Starducks, Everyone who lives on my block, Webby
The outfit that Fenton wears on his date with Gandra once belonged to his father, which is similar to the one worn by James "Sonny" Crocket in the show Miami Vice (1984).
This episode reveals that Fenton has a lot of difficulty in maintaining his secret identity as Gizmoduck to which he keeps a book of everyone who is aware of it, unlike the original series where only his mother and Scrooge was aware of his secret identity. This can be seen as nod to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (also produced by Disney due to their ownership of Marvel Comics) which is largely known for disregarding the secret identity trope in a majority of their productions to help make their plots simpler as they mostly used Marvel Superheroes that do not have secret identities.
When Fenton and Gandra talk about science, they both say "Crackpot" at the same time, which may be a nod to a scene from Aladdin (1992) where both the titular character and Jasmine say "Trapped" at the same time.
