Dexter sends a messy manifesto to the Miami Herald to mislead the investigations of Lundy's team. With Sergeant Doakes on his tail, Dexter plots a Machiavellian scheme to get rid of the hassle. Gail punishes Cody for calling Dexter and Rita takes an attitude sending her back home. Debra dumps Gabriel and shows affection for Agent Lundy. Meanwhile Dexter sentimental life is divided between Lila that supports him in his addiction and Rita and her kids that give sense of family to him. Out of the blue, Lila decides to call the attention to her.
In this episode, Dexter frames the dangerous Doakes and this attitude will probably bring consequences in the next episodes. However the reckless attitude of Lila seems to indicate that the woman will be trouble for him. My vote is eight.

This is the seventh episode of the second season of Dexter and it's an excellent, character-driven, action-packed episode. Many things happen in this episode, so you better not blink. I loved this episode in part because the intensity between Sgt. Doakes and Dexter has gotten even stronger with the happenings in this episode.
In this episode, "That Night, A Forest Grew," Dexter sends a 32-page manifesto in order to confuse the task force. Meanwhile, Dexter realizes he must fight back against Doakes if he is to protect his secrets. While on a romantic dinner with Lila, she gets jealous when she finds out he will be seeing Rita at Cody's school play. Finally, Debra begins a relationship with Secret Agent Lundy.
Overall, this is a fantastic episode and it's even more intense. This show has a knack of wanting you to see more and I do want to see more. I rate this episode 10/10.

First of all, we have gotten to a point where Dexter feels like he has finally gained control.
This episode shows how you can weave intricate webs and storylines to have a great payoffs and moments within the series mid-term. Like :
The scene that started the storyline of Maria starting to believe Doakes being instable lately with the 2 shootings within 6 months... tied with him tailing Dexter for few months.
Another one with Rita and her mother being so controlling to reach the dramatic point this episode which makes Dexter between him viewing what is Contol and be Human and inclusion of Lila which leads to the last moment in the series- - and my favorite one so far which I will talk about at last.
All these storylines with Buildups over a season or almost that gets paidoff when Dexter confronts Doakes and frames him. Also, the moment where Dexter says - "They are still playing my tune. It's like I'm conducting a final symphony - requiem for demonic Dexter." He frames Doakes, makes whole Department dance in his tune. But here comes a moment - "Hey, you got your light fixed" Lila, the one who made Dexter feel in Control can control him without any suspection as she said ... she will always get what she wants.

This is the type of series that gets its hooks in, to such an extent, that you hang for the next episode. The cast is great in typical HBO style with depth of character developed for many regular cast members. Unlike most American series with the emphasis on zero character developments for all but the "stars".
With Dexter, his voice over of inner most thoughts, lets you share the drivers seat as he corrects flaws in the Florida justice system.
In my view he may have erred in his choice of lady, as "The Bill's" Don Beech's daughter is minor league compared with the former ice skater. However one can forgive him this minor blemish when considering the entertainment value provided by this excellent series.
This series, in the tradition of "Cracker", "Prime Suspect" and the Danish series "Unit One" and "The Eagle", despite being from a different perspective, provides very enjoyable viewing in the "police/crime" genre.
