Storyline

Dexter contemplates admitting to the Bay Harbor Butcher killings. Doakes escapes from his cell but runs afoul of two drug smugglers. The FBI is displeased with the lack of progress in the Bay Harbor Butcher case and assigns a deputy director to take over Lundy's role in the investigation. Angel is arrested for the sexual assault of Lila, who offers to drop the charges if Dexter will resume their relationship. Debra investigates Lila's past and discovers that she is an illegal immigrant. Meanwhile, using Dexter's global positioning system, Lila discovers the cabin in the swamp, where Doakes is being held.

Quotes

[first lines]
Dexter Morgan: [narrating] I always thought hardening arteries squeezed the life out of my father. But it was me. Harry gazed into the eye of his creation and saw evil, pure and simple. My evil. It killed him.
Sgt. James Doakes: That shit about your father... you wanna talk about it?
Dexter Morgan: About what? That my life is one tragic mistake?
Sgt. James Doakes: We've all thought that at one time or another. I know I have.
Dexter Morgan: Did you happen to be stuffing a human leg into a garbage bag at that point?

Arriving in the Destination

Dexter lives a dilemma with Doakes imprisoned in the cabin, and is considering the possibility of turning himself in. Meanwhile Lila frames Angel and accuses him of rape to force Dexter to stay with her. Debra asks Lundy to investigate Lila and they discover that Lila is an illegal immigrant. The FBI Deputy Director Max Adams assumes the manhunt of Doakes and finds a lead that he may be in Everglades. Lila steals the GPS from Dexter's minivan and arrives in the cabin where Doakes is captive.

"Left Turn Ahead" is the penultimate episode of this Second Season and Dexter will be in a serious situation since Lila has found Doakes and now he might have to get rid of them two to keep his secret. My vote is eight.
