    • Trivia
Writer and producer Michael Chabon confirmed that the name of the synth homeworld, Coppelius, is a reference to the 1817 short story The Sandman, by E. T. A. Hoffman. In the story a doctor named Coppelius builds a mechanical girl so lifelike that a young man falls in love with her. The short story is similar to:
      • George Bernard Shaw's My Fair Lady
      • Greek Play pygmalion
    • Goofs
On the bridge of the warbird Oh is commanding, the Romulan officer refers to her as "Commodore." As a double agent, that is her rank in Starfleet, but her rank in the Romulan Tal Shiar/Zhat Vash is General, and her cover has clearly been dropped.

    A Senior trekker writes.................
One final space battle and here we are at last on the planet of the Space Flowers with everything set up for the spectacular two-episode denouement. After apparently eating La Sirena, the giant orchid sets it down a few kilometres from the Ashram of the Synthetic Twins. It all looks absolutely gorgeous but cannot not quite overcome a series of glaring plot holes:

1 Elnor and Seven survived the crash landing of a million ton Borg Cube

2 Soji's Romulan lover also survived an unexplained fall from high orbit

3 Rios still has feelings for Dr Agnes despite the unexplained murder of her ex

4 Data's creator's son has succeeded him and is currently living in the same Utopia

5 A Golden, spray-painted android and Soji-double plans to take over the Universe

6 A dying Picard has completely taken leave of his senses and believes that the extermination of all humanoid life could be averted if only the enemy would trust in his good intentions and powers of advocacy.

Senior Trekker still wants very much to like this updated version of Star Trek and can appreciate all the creative energies that went into the making of it but ten episodes were never going to be enough to ask viewers to engage with a new set of characters while telling such a complicated story.

However spectacular an achievement it is in visual terms, a simpler and more comprehensible narrative would have been so much better.
