Storyline

The film follows the COMMUTER, as he embarks on his daily drive from Orange County to Downtown Los Angeles along Interstate 5 Freeway and California Highway 101. During the commute, he fields phone calls from his office, deals with clients and the pains and aggravations of the most horrific traffic on the West Coast. A satirical look at coping with the ever growing problem of too many cars and not enough road. During his drive, the Commuter finds time to worry, relax and contemplate his life while extending various philosophical views. Written by Marc Wasserman

Unique Spalding Gray Type of Rant About Commuting
12 May 2008 | by relentless-3See all my reviews

I recently saw The Commute at the Bare Bones Film Festival where it won the audience award for Best Feature Comedy. Entertaining from start to finish. Although there are several characters in the film, it really centers around the commuter played by Marc Wasserman. Most of the action takes place in the car where Marc Wasserman gives a continuously escalating and increasingly frenetic comical rant reminiscent of Spalding Gray's "Swimming to Cambodia", only the topic here is the insanity of the daily commute to and from work. Wasserman's rant is hysterical and true to life. Although there are great intercuts to an obnoxious traffic helicopter reporter, a client waiting at his office, fantasies about his secretary, etc...It is basically an innerlife monologue about the absurdity of the daily commute. Not an easy topic to make funny but Wasserman pulls it off beautifully.
