In 2007 the cast of The Unit visited American combat troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and received a hugely enthusiastic reception from them. The real Special Forces, the Green Berets, were such fans of the show that they invited them to a Frontline Operating Base (FOB) and allowed them to shoot a variety of exotic weaponry including .50 calibre sniping rifles similar to those used by the characters in 'Dark of the Moon'.
