After extensive re-editing and re-shooting by the producers, writer/director Ti West requested to have his name removed from the film and replaced with the popular pseudonym Alan Smithee. Since he was not a member of the DGA, his request was denied by the producers and he remains credited as the film's director. West has since disowned the final product, claiming that it is more a product of the producers and executives than that of his own. It is unknown whether or not there will ever be a "director's cut" released featuring West's original vision.
According to Fangoria magazine, there were two separate drafts of Cabin Fever 2 written in 2004, one by famed original director Eli Roth and the other by genre favorite Adam Green. However, due to internal politics at Lionsgate, both Roth's and Green's scripts were set aside to bring in a completely new vision. When the film was eventually finished, it was shelved for several years.
Despite the movie being done with filming back in April of 2007, it was shelved for almost two years before being shown on October 24th, 2009 at the Mann Chinese 6 theaters in Hollywood, California as part of the Screamfest Horror Film Festival.
Paul (Rider Strong) and Deputy Winston Olsen (Giuseppe Andrews) are the only characters from the first film to appear in the sequel.
While at Lucille's diner, Winston orders pancakes. In the original A Cabana do Medo (2002), the little kid, Dennis, repeats "Pancakes!" over and over.
The instrumental song "Tonight It's Prom Night, All Night" can be heard playing at the prom. The song was originally written for Meia-Noite Fatal (1980), another horror movie taking place at a prom.
The school mascot is a rabbit. In the original A Cabana do Medo (2002), Paul sees a guy in a rabbit suit at the hospital.
(at around 30 mins) John's two friends, to whom he complained about prom earlier in the movie, can be seen watching a movie together. The clip shown is actually from the original A Cabana do Medo (2002), in which a deer is run over.
When looked at closely, the movie posters for both the original A Cabana do Medo (2002) and this movie contain an underlying skull in the background.
