Live from Jacksonville, FL

Your hosts are Eric Bischoff, Steve McMichael & Bobby Heenan

Tonight, the fans get to choose the main event.

The Giant (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs The Cobra

The Giant wins in literally a few seconds with a chokeslam. This was done to make The Giant look unbeatable. They did a good job with that.

N/R

We get a weird segment of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage interacting with the people of Venice Beach. They are still pushing the "darkside" of Hulkamania. Randy Savage decides to join Hogan on the darkside.

Taskmaster (W/Jimmy Hart) Vs The Renegade

Sullivan wins with a double foot stomp off the top. After the match, Jimmy Hart emasculated The Renegade by wiping his face paint off. This was a glorified squash match. With all due respect, The Renegade was a rip-off of The Ultimate Warrior. He had the same mannerisms and did a lot of the same things. He started off hot with a Television Title run, but went into obscurity after that, tragically committing suicide.

3/4*

Ric Flair tells the fans to vote for Sting tonight so he can prove a point to him.

Chris Beniot Vs Eddie Guerrero

Give them some time, please! Beniot goes to suplex Eddie back into the ring from the apron, but Eddie collapses on top of Beniot and gets the three count. There is controversy because Beniot's feet were under the ropes. This was a really good match for the amount of time it was given. I could watch these two wrestle all day if I could. Beniot's viciousness and Eddie's resilience were good story lines in this match as well. The only thing I didn't care for was the finish. I get they wanted to protect Beniot, but still.

***

Sting encourages viewers to vote for him to face Flair because Flair used people and the "little" Stingers. He hates Flair and he's gonna leave him for dead.

Sting Vs Ric Flair

The fans voted Sting vs Flair. (as if there was any doubt) Sting wins by submission with The Scorpion Deathlock. After the match, Sting refuses to release the hold. A bunch of WCW wrestlers try to get Sting to release it, but he holds on. Lex Luger comes down and says something to Sting, then Sting finally releases the hold. Sting and Luger leave together. This wasn't bad, but most likely Sting and Flair's worst match together. I enjoyed Sting's rage, but it didn't have the flow like I'm used to. I was also surprised that Flair lost clean as a whistle without any interference from Arn Anderson or Brian Pillman. Luger was a heel, but he still maintained his friendship with Sting. That worked in keeping the fans on their toes.

**1/2

Mean Gene Okerlund is in the ring with The Giant, Kevin Sullivan, and Jimmy Hart. Jimmy says while Hogan was out making movies that went straight to video and hanging with Randy Savage, he was getting things done. The contract states that if Hogan lost by disqualification, The Giant would win the title. Therefore, The Giant is the NEW WCW Heavyweight Champion. Hulk Hogan's attorney reveals the nefarious nature of the disqualification means the WCW title does NOT belong to The Giant. The WCW title is now vacant and will be up for grabs in the 60 man battle royal at World War 3.

Thoughts.

A bit of a middling segment, but it made the battle royal at World War 3 feel much more important. The Giant still looks strong because he wasn't defeated for the title.

Final Thoughts.

This was a pretty decent episode of Nitro. It features two above average matches and solid storyline advancement. Flair vs Sting was a tad disappointing, but still somewhat fun. The announcement at the end of the show created intrigue for the World War 3 PPV. If you can handle the silliness of the "darkside" storyline of Hogan and some crap here and there, you'll get rewarded with a decent show.
